Herve Renaud knows a thing or two about leading some massive upsets in international tournaments. Yet, a lot of comments on the TL this morning are about MBS and geopolitics. Yes, can’t divorce the two, but it’s very much bordering on Islamophobia and in some cases crossing it.
Tunisia is drawing from the crowd, and SA had a ton of support there for them. Interesting how the non-Qatari Arab nation teams are using this moment.
1. Saudi Arabia’s regime is one of the most brutal in the world 2. Their soccer team is being used as a soft power instrument to further that regime through sports-washing enterprises 3. #KSA’s win over #ARG is special for Arab people in a climate many want to exclude them from.
All three of these things are true and important to keep in mind as this tournament progresses especially if other Arab nations have success.

There is a reason that the "we have questions about gender affirming care" is never the baseline of "it works we are tinkering to make sure everyone is receiving the best care" but "we have to maintain asking the question of if this care is even ethical".
If the coverage about gender affirming care was the former and interested in making the care better for everyone needing it, there wouldn't be an outcry.
The coverage gets stuck in the latter, and cis people who don't want people to transition drive the framing inside the story.
I wish a reporter doing a big deep dive into gender affirming care for all ages asked a trans person why they keep finding parent after parent that says they were "shocked" by their kid's coming out. The answer may surprise them!
I'm glad someone is on a major television network saying this because it needs to be said, but I just cannot help but wonder how many jobs myself, or my colleagues who are trans, get passed over for having pointed this out for the last 3-4 years?
Like, I hate that I have to point this out: it shouldn't take mainstream cisgender reporters saying this to get people to pay attention. I'm glad it will, but this has been my daily life for what 3 years? Trying to place these stories and beg editors to pay attention?
Again this shouldn't be about *me* or my trans colleagues specifically.
The "questions" people have been asking in mainstream reporting on trans people has led to bad actors pushing violence against us: full stop. Yet our voices don't get to push back.
That ENG was uh not as impressive as many would like to think it was. They had like 3 looks before they finally shuffled the puck back to Fox to have someone actually shoot it on an *empty* net #NYR
This team needs some help I s2g
Lmao we were inches away from giving up 2 goals in 15 seconds to blow this. Incredible.
