If you're frying your turkey this year, make sure it is thawed. Follow the manufacturer instructions for using your fryer. Only fry a turkey outside and away from your home. Never use turkey fryers in the garage or on the porch, Turkey America!
Every year, our international followers use this video as an opportunity to dunk on Americans. This is the way of things.
In the spirit of togetherness, this year we ask - what extreme cooking technique would a CPSC-like agency warn about in your country?
Couple of people asking what these turkeys look like after this demo. Disgusting. Like a Rob Bottin creature. We never even bother to take pictures of them, because we don't want the nightmares.
Tomorrow there will be 3x more home fires in the United States than any other day of the year. Turkey fryers will not be the primary cause. No. Unattended cooking is the #1 cause of home fires. What causes unattended cooking? Dozens of normal things...
A relative breaks something in the other room and now you need to see what happened. Your young child shouts that they need help. A neighbor shows up to drop off a gift and you talk for longer than you expected.
Every year, we trot out the turkey fryer because it is a uniquely dangerous cooking device that commands a lot of respect and attention to use safely, but your home is much more likely to catch fire tomorrow because you left something cooking on top of the stove and walked away.
We ask that tomorrow, while you're entertaining friends and family and juggling what's likely dozens of responsibilities, you choose to have someone in the kitchen at all times. They don't need to be a good cook, just someone who can make sure there isn't a fire.
If you don't have someone available (and even if you do) make sure your smoke alarms are all working. Make sure there's a fire extinguisher in your kitchen. These things can save your life if the unthinkable happens.
We're thankful for all the first responders on duty tomorrow who will be answering calls all over the country. Stay safe out there, and we hope everyone has a very safe and happy Thanksgiving 🦃

Lithium-ion batteries are full of chemicals that can start fires.
If you own an e-bike, hoverboard, scooter, or other product that's powered by lithium-ion batteries, make sure you are always awake when the batteries are charging and follow the manufacturer instructions.
This National Fire Prevention Week, we join @PHMSA_DOT, @FAANews, and @EPA in educating riders about lithium-ion battery safety for micromobility devices:
CPSC Approves New Federal Safety Standard for Magnets to Prevent Deaths and Serious Injuries from High-Powered Magnet Ingestion: bit.ly/3KS2g8y
When high-powered magnets are swallowed, they can attract to each other, or to other material that attracts to magnets, through internal body tissue. This can result in perforations, twisting and/or blockage of the intestines, infection, blood poisoning and death.
These injuries can occur when children and teens access and ingest the magnets, including, for example, when teens use the magnets to mimic mouth piercings and swallow them inadvertently.
Are you asking the right questions about your vacation rental?
Does this vacation rental have: working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, working fire extinguishers, anchored furniture, and pool safety devices (such as a four-sided fence around the pool), a kraken?
