Big risk to Aus climate policy is that Labor scandals won't be the same outrage candy LNP's were.

Here's a @Bowenchris-appointed panel member recommending investment in the #offsets SHE IS REVIEWING. @crikey_news @BernardKeane
crikey.com.au/2022/11/18/acc…
Two other panel members work for corporations that profit from advising on the offset system THEY ARE REVIEWING.
One of them works for @EY_Australia and wrote this report to promote its carbon consulting arm:
The other works for Pollination, a company that "has its finger in every part of the carbon club" (eew!).
This includes financial advice to carbon offset developers and "serious money".

So our broken offsets system is being "reviewed" by people who profit from it being broken.

What could go wrong?

Here's @TheAusInstitute submission, featuring @pollyjhemming and @RichieMerzian

BREAKING: Clive Palmer Waratah Coal mine refused by Qld Land Court!
Big question - can the court consider combustion emissions of the coal? As a matter of law, court has decided it can. Good decision!
"How to assess the significance of these emissions when this mine is only one source?... There is sufficient certainty in the science...to link the project coal to climate change"

In Qld today @ScottMorrisonMP and @Barnaby_Joyce announced they would put $5.4b into the Hell's Gates dam.

They claim $6b increase in output & 7k ongoing jobs.

Reserve Bank of Australia (@RBAInfo) has put out modelling of a major decline in Aus fossil fuel exports.

Key finding: "The effect on overall Australian GDP is expected to be relatively small and gradual."

*Sizzling* new #Watergate documents show taxpayers & rivers were ripped off.
Kudos to @Senator_Patrick for epic FoI battle.

After 2 year cover up, only explanations left are incompetence or wrongdoing by @DeptAgNews under @Barnaby_Joyce. THREAD.
Taxpayers paid @AngusTaylorMP's former co $80m for dubious water in Condamine Balonne valley. It seemed outrageous at the time, esp when the co announced a $52m profit on the deal.
@MaryanneSlatte1 & I showed, the dpt had haggled the price *up*.

The price of $2,745/ML and profit have never been disputed, but Department told the Senate “This price was consistent with the market valuation,” along with some other selective quotes and misrepresentations:

Love #auspol but don't quite understand the @Barnaby_Joyce/#watergate/#RonniSalt thing?

Always had Qs re #MurrayDarling politics, but were too afraid to ask?

This thread's for you.
Current excitement is about an $80m ‘strategic water purchase’, which Joyce made as water minister in 2017.

@AngusTaylorMP's old company Eastern Australian Agriculture made a $52m profit on the deal.

Taylor was not involved in EEA in 2017 & I allege no wrongdoing on his part.
Taylor's involvement isn't the point - point is that EEA is a well-connected corporation.

To understand the #auspol of the #MurrayDarling you need to realise that it isn't about upstream vs down, farming vs env, or ALP vs LNP.

It's about the powerful vs everyone else.
