This new meme on the Ethiopian conflict is being used in a somewhat perverse manner in Western Media.

The new subtext is:

“We were not paying attention but now are.”

But the attention that is being paid remains ignorant and oblivious to the most important narrative.

Namely that #TigrayGenocide was always a fiction manufactured by TPLF and embraced by Western powers in a manner which made this war infinitely worse than it ought to have been.

As a result of this continued ignorance in Western media the TPLF’s false victimisation narrative is now flourishing again under this new equally flawed perspective on the conflict.

There is nothing particularly surprising about this as US Exceptionalism’s abiding central thesis is that the US has played a constructive role in the world order in its post isolationist period beginning at the end of the 19th Century.

A thesis which is unfortunately not supported by the historical record. The record of US foreign wars against the Spanish and the Chinese through till now is of continuous war profiteering and exploitation at the barrel of a gun.

The recent failed/failing attempt by the US to prop up it’s psychopathic authoritarian proxy - the TPLF - a govt which was imposed on Ethiopia by the US unilaterally following the end of the Cold War and the defeat of the Derg provides an interesting contemporary codicil.

But just as the US failed to learn any lessons from other recent debacles in:
- Iran, Iraq x 4, Afghanistan, Libya & Syria no one will be holding their breath in expectation that circumspection will experience a comeback in US FP after its latest Ethiopian debacle.
