I wanted to share my favorite painting I did for #MarvelStudios #loki . This was long before the fantastic Owen Wilson was cast. This unused story moment depicts Loki in Pompeii doing whatever he wants, since he's in an apocalyptic event. And so he decides to murder a slaver. Image
This key was a so fun to do. Love me some crowd scenes, some action, and some good ol' enviroments. Painting all back in 2019ish. Below are the preliminary sketches done for this key. #loki #MarvelStudios ImageImage
This is it for now! I just want to say a huge congratulation to the Loki team for such incredible work and huge thank you to @MeinerdingArt for his excellent vis dev leadership! :D
To see all the other work I've done for #Loki you can view them below!

Please check out the art book too! Cover by the incredible @wesburt! The artbook features a lot more of the work we've done! A fantastic look at all the great work the team does to bring the wonderful visuals you see on screen for #MarvelStudios #loki!

1/ This protection is in place because taking works that aren’t in public domain to profit from, economically affects the artists, big and small, who innovated in the first place.

There ONLY barriers to ethical creations is just time+knowledge. Stealing artworks is not the way
2/ btw Metropolis owns! Even Sargent is public domain which bruh. There’s top tier stuff in there.

Also pretending like taking artist’s work and data (for commercial purposes) without knowledge, consent is some kind a fight against the big corps is silly. I deeply get (cont.)
3/ The concerns people have over copyright because yes, some big corps have abused it. But while not perfect, copyright is still a pivotal *constitutional right* that protects artists and creators, both big and small, over and over again.

1/ The speed in which tech companies are stumbling upon themselves to use AI models that rely on the deceptively gotten IP data and private data of artists and the public is outstanding. Shame on you @Apple and @tim_cook

2/ A reminder to everyone how deeply effed this all is, in convenient 28 tweet form:
3/ I really hope more folks in all media/creative fields realize that AI media models are evolving quickly and the standard set is to just take your data and use it to generate their product which they profit from. I’d love to see folks like @adamconover @jonstewart @evan_greer -

1/ After following the AI conversation for so long there is one argument that is made over and over, by well meaning and not so well meaning folk.

“AI is inspired by artists the same way humans are”.

As a professional artist I can safely say that's nonsense. Lets discuss 🧵
2/ First and foremost note that I am not a AI engineer, a neurologist, a scientist or a lawyer. I am however a professional artist with over 13 years of experience in film, games, etc, who teaches art via workshops all over the world. Creativity is certainly my wheelhouse ✌️
3/ Before we begin let's take a quick moment to address the technical aspect of this from a person who knows about this subject:

@kevin2kelly @glichfield @FlyingTrilobite @neilturkewitz @WIRED @sciam 1/ Mr. Kelly you are operating on assumptions. You claim that "AI has not harmed actual people", which is entirely speculation and not facts. So let's talk facts, and with the evidence you ask for. Let's begin, and please be patient, it's going to be a bit long 🧵👇:
@kevin2kelly @glichfield @FlyingTrilobite @neilturkewitz @WIRED @sciam 2/ A quick intro to who am I. I am a professional artist of over 15 years working in the film industry (Marvel, HBO, Universal etc), and have been an advocate for my community, raising alarms on the unethical practices of AI companies, and how it harms our community.
@kevin2kelly @glichfield @FlyingTrilobite @neilturkewitz @WIRED @sciam 3/ I've also been in constant communication with AI engineers, ethic advocates and researchers. For example @atg_abhishek of the Montreal AI Ethics Institute, to better understand these AI/ML models and really see why this has been so harmful.montrealethics.ai

1/ Today we learn the unexpected news that Kim Jung Gi has passed away. My heart is broken by this. I want to wish his family, Hyun jin Kim, the rest of the Super Ani crew and his friends my deepest condolences.
2/ I’ve had the immense pleasure to know Jung Gi throughout the years, and was looking forward to seeing him in a week. My mind has been thinking of all the joyful moments Jung Gi gave us throughout the years. I hope to share these precious memories with you all.
3/My first time meeting the Master Kim Jung Gi was in 2013. I was so excited to be teaching in the same room as Master Jung Gi. A SuperAni team member told me Master Jung Gi wanted to say hello, he liked my Magic the gathering paintings. I couldn’t believe it-

1/ You know how I know AI companies like Stability AI, knowingly and purposefully took and used visual artists and general public copyrighted data and private data without a care or concern (aside from seeing data on where they scraped their data from.)?
2/ Let me present to you the way Stability AI has handled their music model, Dance Diffusion.

They built their data sets entirely out of copyright free music and allowed musicians to opt in. Read their own admission : Image
3/ Where was this care and consideration for visual artists, small businesses and general public? What are companies like Stability Ai/ Stable Diffusion/Dream Studio and Midjourney doing to rectify this? Will they compensate affected artists? Will they shut down operations-
