1/ I really hope what @Adobe claims is true and if it were it would be a good step in the right direction. However after some cursory digging I have serious questions. Lets dig in 🧵 2/ Right off the bat, have Adobe Stock contributors given their explicit full consent to be a part of this? Did they agree to opt in? Why is there no option for Adobe contributors to not opt out? This seems concerning to me.

It’s all a distraction from Ai companies and ai advocates to divert focus on the real issue: that this tech is exploitative and it relies on ill-gotten data, of artists and the public, to train for profit models without our knowledge, or consent. Essentially theft 2/ They’ll squirm and try to divert in any way possible. So you’ll hear cries on why it’s actually ok for Ai media to be exploitative because “it’s Art!”. But if it is art, it’s stolen art.
“This is ableist” they’ll cry, while ignoring how this deeply affects disabled artists

1/ A reminder to Mr. Kelly (one of the founders of @wired), that a month ago he was explained in full detail how AI is harmful to artists+the public. Instead he ignored it all to continue the objectively untrue narrative that harm is imaginary. Read here:

2/ Important to note we learn about awful new things almost on a daily basis now. Like for example when @samdoesarts work was turned into ai models, and a company called civitai emailed him to mock him, just a couple weeks ago.

1/ Deeply embarrassing response to artists protesting for their rights from @ArtStationHQ.

This language is so contradictory. No artists got to decide or choose how THEIR work was used, when AI companies scraped their work from sites like Art Station (cont.) 2/ No artists got to decide or choose when AI users use their full names to generate imagery based on their work. (also sly move there Art Station, lumping AI users with your artist userbase...)

Furthermore by citing they don't want to become a "gatekeeper" (cont)

1/ I am immensely disappointed with @Adobe on this decision and I hope decision makers there reconsider.

Adobe will allow contributors who submit AI generated content to get royalties (profit) while imposing unenforceable guidelines to what kind of AI is submitted. 2/ Furthermore the person they use as advertisement is the same individual who tried (and got denied) to copyright an Ai comic. This comic used Zendaya a lot as a prompt.

This same person is trying to appeal the Copyright’s office and their lawyer (cont.)

1/ This protection is in place because taking works that aren’t in public domain to profit from, economically affects the artists, big and small, who innovated in the first place.

There ONLY barriers to ethical creations is just time+knowledge. Stealing artworks is not the way 2/ btw Metropolis owns! Even Sargent is public domain which bruh. There’s top tier stuff in there.

Also pretending like taking artist’s work and data (for commercial purposes) without knowledge, consent is some kind a fight against the big corps is silly. I deeply get (cont.)

I wanted to share my favorite painting I did for #MarvelStudios #loki . This was long before the fantastic Owen Wilson was cast. This unused story moment depicts Loki in Pompeii doing whatever he wants, since he's in an apocalyptic event. And so he decides to murder a slaver. Image This key was a so fun to do. This is dehumanizing language, intent on reducing human artists to mere "tools". It is a deeply offensive tactic, but there is purpose behind these words. 1/ Good morning.

Drawing and painting for 8+ hours a day can do irreparable damage to your body, even if you are young. Instead may I offer the following helpful advice that works and is healthier for you?

Deliberate and dedicated study of 3-5 hrs > 8+ hours of non stop paint. 2/ Deliberate study: to give your studies an honest intent. To find what you are weakest at, and study *that*. Have a goal when practicing, even if small.

Dedicated study: to focus on your drawing/painting. Think every time you lay down a line, and ask why it needs to be-
