🌱For the next couple of weeks, countries are coming together at the @UNBiodiversity #COP15 to adopt the landmark “Global Biodiversity Framework”.

➡️But what are the 7⃣elements that must be included in that framework, for it to be really ambitious & transformative?

1⃣ - A clear and ambitious “Mission” for 2030, to halt and reverse the loss of #biodiversity and secure a #NaturePositive world by the end of the decade.

👉It means that in 2030, we have more #Nature than there is now.

2⃣ - 2030 targets to conserve at least 30% of land, freshwater and oceans, and restore degraded ecosystems globally - placing Indigenous Peoples & local communities at the centre of conservation policies.

3⃣ - Actions across key sectors to tackle the drivers & root causes of #biodiversity loss.

👉For example halving the footprint of production & consumption by 2030, and changing the way food is produced and consumed. #FoodSystems

4⃣ - A strong & effective implementation mechanism.

👉Goals & targets are only meaningful if they guide & stimulate action. We need a mechanism that holds governments to account & allows action to be strengthened over time.

5⃣ - A comprehensive finance package.

👉We need more money #ForNature, but also ensure that no more investments are harming nature, and that all finance is aligned with the objectives of the Global Biodiversity Framework.

6⃣ - High-quality #NatureBasedSolutions that benefit people & nature.

👉Such “NbS” must be equitable & simultaneously address societal challenges while providing benefits for nature.

7⃣ - A rights-based approach across the whole framework, which values people’s rights side-by-side with the rights of nature.

👉The global biodiversity framework must be especially centered on Indigenous Peoples and local communities.
