Did Iran say it will shut the Guidance Patrol (Hijab police)?

No. Here is what happened:

In a press conference, someone asked top prosecutor, Jafar Montazeri, why was the Guidance Patrol not around anymore.
+
Montazeri said the patrol wasn't the business of the judiciary but of the police so "they launched it and they shut it themselves." He quickly added that the Judiciary would still monitor "behavior in society"
Iran's regime media have also been quick at work, clarifying the the issue and denying that Guidance Patrol has been shut.
Still, there is some evidence that some inside the regime are debating whether to relax, change, re-package or do something to the Hijab laws although Khamenei is very unlikely to concede anything on this front
I need to make a slight correction here. He didn't name the police. Just said, "whoever who had launched it"
Please note that as I said above, Montazeri DID say "they launched it and they shut it themselves" so this is why the world media has been quick to report that the GP has been "shut."

But this is at best a very unclear and inconclusive remark uttered in the middle of a presser
(Although the Berlin Wall did also come down based on an official uttering some thing in the middle of a presser!)

State media has already tried to backtrack on this issue. We should wait and see
#UPDATE

Jalal Rashidi Koochi, conservative MP and member of parliament's Domestic Affairs Committee, says: "I have heard that the Guidance Patrol will have no place in the new plan being prepared by the Supreme Council of Cultural Revolution."
One more reason why "Morality Police is Disbanded/dissolved" headlines don't make sense is this: the Guidance Patrol (official name) is not a unit to be dissolved. It is a program run by the police, run on the basis of Council of Cultural Revolution directives.
So it is a practice that can be discontinued but the police and Judiciary can still use many other ways to prosecute those not wearing Hijab
Also note that Koochi, despite being an Osoolgera/Conservative, has long been an open and loud opponent of Guidance Patrol (morality police) as a practice while affirming that he supports the compulsory Hijab law.

I think my students liked me until today... when I attacked horoscopes as a form of irrational pseudoscience...
And I actually do believe it's so, so, so fundamentally sad that there is so much support for pseudoscience in the world today and that Reason is under such assault
And my basic question: When millions believe that day of their birth determines their personality... and that this is best captured by some third-rate writer with no background in anything... is it really surprising that many people also believe the 'illuminati' run the world?

“Based on our concern for consolidating peaceful, democratic political action, we call for the organisation of fair and honest early elections that express the true will of the Iraqis, to be organised by a truly independent interim government that enjoys national acceptance."
Iraqi Communist Party, which boycotted the elections last year (erroneously, IMHO) has now called for fresh elections and an end to the ethno-sectarian sharing of government.
As I have tried to show in my dissertation, opposing sectarianism and an attempt to build national civic states is a primary feature of Middle Eastern Communist parties -- just as Communist parties elsewhere.

This unassuming piece by @gershonbaskin actually has a couple of very good ideas about #Palestine/#Israel --

Most importantly his suggestion that the West should recognize the State of Palestine and that the Arab states should push for this

jpost.com/opinion/articl…
It is often, correctly, said that there is a 'one state reality' in Israel/Palestine today -- since Israel rules the roost over all the land between river and the sea.

But there is also a form of a 'two state reality' -- why?
Because the State of Palestine is recognized by majority of countries in the world including major Western states like Sweden.

More importantly, it enjoys national loyalty from the Palestinians who easily boast the strongest form of national identity in the region.

.@Yair_Rosenberg 's eloquent yet accessible piece explains why Goldberg's mistake was not just a lapse but based on confusions about Jews who don't fit into common 'Western boxes.'

It makes a crucial point but I think it misses something broader

newsletters.theatlantic.com/deep-shtetl/61…
Despite their unique identity, It's not just the Jewish people who don't neatly fit into the 'Western boxes' -- the boxes, btw, are not 'Western' but at yet something broader and more limited: They are particular to America and yet have been universalized in lands faraway thus +
giving birth to many confusions, inconsistencies and conflicts over identity and history.

In this atmosphere, in this 'age of identity' various identities are at once rigid, sensitive and central.

Dear Palestinian friends,

I’ve opposed Israeli war crimes and occupation all my life, I am happy to call its rule apartheid, I support conditioning military aid to #Israel and taking it to ICC.

Trust me, I am your friend and ally!
In the Iranian spectrum of politics, I am always attacked for being too pro-Palestinian! Just because I don’t take the crazy maximalist position of some American leftists and because I also acknowledge the right of Israeli Jews to self-determination, this doesn’t make me an enemy
Your Western leftist friends will say all the loud words because they don’t live in this region and can afford to take any crazy positions they want! They just wanna appear to be cool. Wallahi, they are not your true friends.

Friends have to be honest with friends. True allies of the Palestinian people are not those who shout the most “radical” slogans in NY or London but those who speak the truth bluntly: not having a vision for Israeli Jews has for long doomed the Palestinian national movement.
For years, PLO endorsed a policy of kicking out millions of Jews out of Palestine which, apart from its utter immorality, was absurdly unrealistic since no force could make it true. They went from one utter failure of strategy to another.
Since they didn’t have the military power to win against Israeli military, they resorted to most insane armed attacks: plane hijackings, massacring athletes, random Puertorican tourists and high school children. And who financed all of this adventurism?
