If one goes to Kashi on a pilgrimage it is said that one must give up eating a fruit, a vegetable, and a leaf forever! What’s the reason behind that?
According to the Shastras, nowhere it is said if one goes to Kashi one must give up these.
Whatever was told in the

Shastras has been either knowingly or unknowingly changed by some one in their favor with half knowledge.
What do the scriptures say about Kashi Kshetra?
Go and take a holy dip in the Ganges at Kashi. Leave #Kayapeksha (Kaya means the physical body and Apeksha is desire) and

#Phalapeksha (Phalapeksha means the desire on the results of the activities that we are supposed to do). So the elders said, be with the thought of devotion on God alone. Over time it has become
literally the Kaya (in Telugu, a Vegetable or an unripe fruit)
and Phala (a ripened

fruit)! That's it. If we go to Kashi and give up eating our favourite vegetables and fruits and leave them in the Ganges, how will that result in any devotion or true Virtue? So we should understand what the Shastras truly convey. After a Darshan of the “Kshetra”,
If we follow

the tradition of that Kshetra, real spiritual awareness happens. That's it and not if a mango and an eggplant are ‘let go’ in the Ganges! That is if no use. So next time when we go to Kashi after having a Darshan of Lord Viswanatha, let us let go of our extreme “love of the body”

and the ‘love on the results -
of all the Karmic activities we perform’ which are our true enemies and let us pray for acquiring true spiritual knowledge.🙏
