That was evident from media, Twitter accounts which follow football and, of course, general public. I haven’t seen a singe poll on Twitter giving Croatia more than 10% chance of going through to the semifinals.
Let this be a lesson to those who completely wrote off Croatia when you saw they were up against Brazil. And I am not writing this in a condescending/patronizing way. I’d like you to think what you thought about that match before the start and what are you thinking right now.
We saw a lot of surprises at this World Cup, and that’s what makes it great, among other things. Isn’t it inspiring when you see a Dinamo Zagreb goalkeeper playing the game of his life against the strikers and wingers from Real Madrid, PSG, Barcelona etc.?
Some of these guys won’t ever have more spotlights on them their entire life, and this is their chance to have their say.
Croatia’s players (apart from the world class ones) are far from anonymous, some of them have played in a World Cup final just 4 years ago.
You might not like their style, but you have to respect their fighting spirit, their zeal, their drive and never-say-die attitude. In 2018, some considered it luck. Nowadays, it would be unwise to claim so.
Their sporting success (not only in football) is truly magnificent. And that is an understatement. To be in the World Cup semifinals two times in a row (and three overall, France 1998) is an amazing feat for any country, let alone this small.
I am inspired by their players, their stories, their play-style which regularly sees them knock-out football Goliaths. And you should be as well.
Watch the World Cup, enjoy football and admire Croatia.
🇧🇷 Brazil is looking fantastic at the moment and are firing on all cylinders. Croatia is tough to beat, don’t concede much but I don’t think they’ll be able to keep their net intact in this game. It would be unwise to not target Brazil’s attacking assets,
...mainly Richarlison since he has the most value given his price tag. Neymar and Vinicius are sound picks as well with Neymar edging Vini since he's on penalty duty.
