where bakugo and deku went to different high schools and meet again in college where they share a dorm
--
izuku opened the door of his new dorm only to collide with a naked chest.
"sorry!" he frantically bowed. "i didn't see you." he looked up and immediately recognized the spiky red hair. "oh my god, you're red riot!"
the man smirked, "oh you know me?"
"of course, i saw you at the sport festival! your quirk is so fascinating and..." he started to rant and only stopped when he heard the other man chuckle.
"oh i'm so sorry," he apologized again. "i tend to mumble a lot."
"no big deal," the man smiled and izuku could feel himself fall in love. "are you moving in here?" he asked, noticing the bags.
"i do," he replied, "it's my first year, i'm taking the support course." he peaked inside and noticed unopened boxes.
"will be my roommate?" he beamed,
"oh no, bak—" the man started, but the sound of the bathroom's door slamming open interrupted him.
"shitty hair," a gruff voice called. "what the fuck are you still doing in my—"
izuku stilled as he recognized the voice he hadn't heard in years.
"deku?" kacchan called in disbelief.
the red-haired man looked at him "you already know each other?" he turned to izuku, "i've never heard of you," he added.
izuku nervously rubbed the back of his neck, "oh, kacchan and i were in the same class in middle school."
"/kacchan/?" the man picked up.
"sorry," he apologized. "k— bakugo." red riot seemed to be a good friend of kacchan,
it's been years since he'd last seen his childhood friend. if that man still called kacchan 'bakugo', what right did he have too call him by that nickname?
katsuki didn't say anything, only stared with an unreadable face.
"wanna go see the campus?" red riot shifted his attention back to his friend.
"sure," katsuki grumbled, following the red-head. "see ya, shitty nerd."
izuku didn't even have the time to respond and he stood in front of the open door, watching as the two hero students
went into the elevator together.
he sighed before entering his new dorm. he didn't know what he feared the most — his new crush on red riot or his old one on kacchan.

the first semester passed in a blur. kacchan didn't really talk to him, only acknowledging him when they crossed path, which was quite a lot since they shared the same dorm. it felt weird; izuku wished they could have become friends again.
especially when he didn't have a lot. he had one lab partner, hatsume mei, but she didn't talk much when it didn't come to her babies.
he would sometimes see kirishima when he was hanging out with kacchan, but he hadn't gathered the courage to talk to him yet.
and without noticing, four months had passed and his dormmate was leaving the dorms for the summer break.
"are you not packing your stuff?" kacchan asked him.
"i'm staying here for the holidays," he replied. "i have a project with hatsume."
"alright."
the next day he was alone in his room.
it felt weird not having kacchan around, even if they were just acquaintances now.
he was in the middle of reading a book when someone knocked. opening the door, he was met with red.
"is bakugo there?" kirishima asked.
"he went home for summer break," he replied.
"oh," kirishima seemed bumped. "alright."
he was about to leave, but izuku caught his arm. "do you— do you wanna eat something? I made pancakes this morning."
and that's how it started; kirishima stayed that day and came the next one, and the one after too. they spent the whole summer in the dorm, sometimes going out to see a movie or just walking around the empty campus.
izuku felt happy, really. his crush had turned into sometimes more real — feelings. he wondered if he could fall in love.
kirishima helped him not to overwork himself, bringing food when he was in the lab with hatsume or forcing him to actually sleep.
sometimes he would stay the night and they would talk for hours, falling asleep on the floor. izuku would wake up with the smell of breakfast enveloping the room. it felt nice.
without noticing, summer was almost over.
the day before october, kirishima took him on a hike in the mountains. izuku wondered if it was one of those boyfriend proposals he had seen on social media. he blushed slightly thinking about how this say could become their anniversary.
once they reached the top, they sat down on the ground, kirishima taking out the food he had prepared.
"did you really carry katsudon the whole way?" izuku gasped.
"anything for you, midoriya," kirishima smiled.
once they had ate, they stayed a bit like this, silently looking at the landscape. izuku found it beautiful, how the rays of sunlight were peaking through the cloud and basking the trees and the city below them.
he turned to kirishima. "the view really is pretty—"
but he was already looking at him. he felt himself blush, not knowing how to act under his gaze.
"yeah, it is," kirishima exaled. he leaned down a bit, his head coming closer, izuku could feel his breathe on his lips.
he wondered if it was going to be their first kiss. he closed his eyes, waiting.
when he reopened them, kirishima was packing their stuff. "we should start heading back," he explained. "or we'll get to the dorms too late."
izuku shot him a confused glance. what? did he misread everything? was kirishima not ready yet? "alright," he tried to smile. "let's head back."
later, when they were close to the dorms, kirishima stopped before they could reach his corridor.
"well, i'll see you tomorrow, right?" he said.
"oh, yeah," izuku thought he was going to accompany him to his room. "right."
"see you tomorrow," kirishima said before he left.
izuku watched him go away, an uneasy felling growing inside his chest.

when izuku entered his dorm, kacchan was already there, laying down on his bed and staring at the ceiling.
"hi, kacchan," he said tiredly.
his doormate immediately swifted his gaze to him. "hi, deku," he looked unexpectedly soft. "where were you?"
izuku thought about his day. it had been well, really, he had such a great time. then why did he feel like he shouldn't be telling kacchan? maybe kirishima needed more time. he wished the summer has lasted longer.
"i was at the lab with hatsume," he said.
kacchan didn't comment anything, only frowned. izuku was a bit uncomfortable lying to him, he felt like his doormate could tell he was hiding the truth. and for what? he didn't know himself. "i'm gonna take a shower," he said.
"alright," kacchan hummed. "you hungry? I can make katsudon."
"it's fine, k— bakugo," he corrected himself. "i've already eaten."
"alright," he paused. "not like i care."
izuku didn't respond, steping inside the bathroom instead. "i know, kacchan," he whispered once the door was closed. sometimes he wished he didn't care either.

he didn't see kirishima the next day, or the day after. in fact, he didn't see him for the following week. he caught glimpses of him sometimes, but he never found the opportunity to talk to him. izuku felt restless, he kept replaying the day they had in the mountains,
trying to find what could have prompted this lack of attention. he wasn't interested anymore? perhaps he understood he didn't want it in that moment when they almost— had they even almost kissed? he had just closed his eyes, maybe had he misread everything?
he felt his cheeks burn in embarrassment. he wished he could just erase that moment from existence; he was practically sure it had been when the atmosphere had shifted between them. he just wanted them to get back to the dynamic they had during this summer.
kacchan was pissed by his behaviour, yelling at him to stop coming back that late because he kept waking him up in the middle of the night. so he was staying in the lab most of the time, sleeping even less than before. for some reason, it just pissed kacchan more.
kirishima came to see him on friday during a slot when his class had been cancelled. he didn't talk about that almost kiss, so izuku didn't either. he was just glad they were spending time together the same way they did during summer break.
he hoped it meant they could go back to what they were.
kirishima left one hour after when it was time for him to go back to class. he spent the whole week-end in the lab in hope that he wouldn't miss him if he wanted to pass by again, but he didn't come.
instead, he had a very angry kacchan barging into the lab in the middle of the night — or maybe it was monday morning already — to yell at him about the socks he had left on the floor, forcing him to go back to the dorm to take care of it.
once it was done, he was about to leave when kacchan stopped him. "where the fuck do you think you're going?"
izuku turned to him in confusion. "to the lab?" it seemed that it was the wrong answer because his dormmate looked more angry than ever.
"you are definitely not going back in that shithole at 3 in the morning when i had to clean the fridge from your stuff becausd it was going to expire. you're going to fucking eat what i made because I ain't touching your shit."
"what—" he wanted to protest but his stomach
growled.
he saw kacchan pinch the bridge of his nose in irritation. "i bet you haven't eaten since the last time you came here. i'm not letting you waste all this food, especially not when it's in /my/ fridge." he went to the stoves and poured what was inside the pot into a
bowl.
"here," he shoved it into izuku's chest. "you eat that and then i don't want to hear you open this door until i wake up from my /own/ alarm."
"what am i supposed to do until then?" izuku asked.
"sleep!" kacchan seethed. "like everyone else!"
tbc - yeah izuku's an overthinker who's bad at social clues in this fic he's just like me fr
[a/n] once again I have no idea what I'm writing but I'm writing it anyway lol
izuku didn't want kacchan to find another reason to hate him more than he already did, so he cleaned his side of the dorm and packed some stuff before leaving for the lab.
"why did ya bring a pillow here, mido?" hatsume asked him once he had settled
everything in their shared lab.
"to sleep," he replied.
"don't you have a dorm with a /bed/ for that?"
"i also have a roommate that hates being waken up when i don't, so..."
"right," she sighed. well, someone came in the morning to leave this for you."
she pointed to a bento lying on his desk. "said you should eat more."
izuku peaked at the box. there wasn't any note on it. "who is it from?" he asked.
"the guy said not to tell you," hatsume replied. "but don't worry, mido. you know him, he's nice"
she raised her googles and he could see she was zooming on his face. "i bet he likes you," she smirked. "maybe he's /courting/ you."
izuku blushed, hiding his face behind his arms. "hatsume—" he gasped. "it's not like that!"
but wasn't it? he didn't know a lot of people on this campus that could do that for him — was it kirishima? he smiled, opening the bento to find two onigiris. they both had bunny shapes and /freckles/ — was it supposed to be him?
he smiled even more and didn't see hatsume take her phone out until the flash of the camera made him jolt. "what—" he squeaked.
"taking a pic to send your suitor," she grinned. "he said it was to make sure you were eating, but i think he just wants a new pic
for his phone's wallpaper", she winked at him.
izuku laughed, thinking of kirishima's phone and his face as the background. maybe he could do the same? he didn't have a lot of pictures of them together.
"aren't you gonna eat them?"
izuku grabbed the box protectively. "don't even think about it," he warned.
they were his to eat.

thank you for reading 🫶
[a/n] this is a really self-indulgent comfort fic I'm not even editing what I'm writing 😭
the next time izuku saw kirishima was in the quirk history class they shared. kacchan was there too, sitting right before him. the red-haired man entered the room, his gaze wandering near him. there was an empty seat on izuku's right
and he thought that could be where kirishima would sit when he came his way but the man decided to claim the place next to katsuki.
oh /right/, he didn't want anyone to know. or maybe was it too awkward.
izuku wished summer had lasted longer. he felt like they'll have to wait for the next one for them to be comfortable again. would he have to endure this for the rest of the year? he didn't know if it was worth it.
"man, are you going to mina's party for halloween?" he heard kirishima.
"dunno," kacchan grunted. "don't wanna leave my roommate alone. can't let him burn the kitchen trying to carve an all might shaped pumpkin again."
"eh, that was one time and i was 12!" izuku intervened.
both of them turned to him.
"really?" kacchan smirked, leaning on izuku's desk. "then why did hatsume tell me you blew up the lab twice by making all might shaped prototypes?"
"is that why you had a temporary lab in august?" kirishima questioned.
"yeah," izuku blushed. "turns out it wasn't a good idea to customize dynamite sticks with all might's hair."
"you went to the lab?" kacchan glared at kirishima. izuku's eyes widened.
why did kacchan seem irritated by this idea? did he not like it that he could talk to his friends?
"yeah," kirishima rubbed the back of his neck. "i just needed some repairs for my support item." izuku tried to meet his gaze, but kirishima kept his on katsuki.
"just bring your roommate to the party if you don't want him alone in your dorm," he suggested.
"oh, i can just go to the lab—"
"so you can blow it up again with all might shaped explosives?" kacchan interrupted. "no way, you're either staying in the dorm or
going to that party, but you'll be somewhere where i can watch you."
"okay," izuku caved in. "let's stay—"
"don't you want to go to the party?" kirishima suddenly turned to him. "it'd be cool if you came."
/oh./ izuku blushed, not knowing what to do with himself under the gaze of the man he'd been yearning for this past month. "well— it'd be cool," he admitted. "why not?" he smiled.
kacchan scoffed and kirishima broke eye contact, ending the moment.
"guess you're coming," he teased his friend.
"whatever," kacchan turned back to the front where the teacher had arrived.
kirishima glanced one last time in his direction, winking at him, before doing the same.
izuku smiled, staring at the man's back. he hoped this party could bring back the summer they had.
the next days passed in a blur and before he knew it, izuku was getting ready for the halloween party.
kacchan was preparing himself too, dressing into a long green coat and wolf ears. izuku couldn't help but think it looked cute.
"you even sewed an all might patch on that sheet?" kacchan asked, studying his clothes.
"it's not shitty," he pouted. "i'm a ghost."
"i can see that," his roommate laughed. "doesn't look bad. even has the freckles."
izuku smiled. "you don't look bad yourself," he teased back.
kacchan looked away. "whatever," he walked to his side of the room, his wolf tail swinging left and right, and grabbed the phone that
lied in his bed.
"we should start heading out."
izuku nodded but as they were about to leave, someone knocked on their door. kacchan's whole demeanor changed, looking suddenly irritated. "must be shitty hair," he grumbled.
izuku knew it was an act, thought. kacchan liked his friends, or he wouldn't spend time with them. sometimes he wondered if he /liked/ kirishima more than his other friends.
since the second semester had started, kacchan had acted more aggressive than usual to izuku,
especially over matters that involved kirishima.
his thoughts were interrupted by kacchan opening the door to reveal kirishima clad in a red hood. "hi, kats," the man said. "hi, midoriya."
"oh!" izuku said excitedly. "are you wearing matching costumes?"
"yes!" "fuck no."
kirishima playfully smacked kacchan's shoulder. "don't be shy, kats," he laughed. "we made them together."
"we just went to the same store at the same time," kacchan grunted. "i made it myself."
izuku felt his heart sink, watching them naturally bicker like this.
they were close and didn't need a summer break to be comfortable around each other. the more he thought about it, the more he felt like this party could be his last chance to save his relationship with kirishima — a relationship he wasn't even sure they had.
but if kirishima had brought him to the mountains that day, if he was the one that was leaving those meals at the lab, if he had asked hatsume to make sure he ate them, if he invited him to that party, didn't it mean something too? wasn't it enough to hope?
because that was all that was left of them, of that summer they spent together — the hope that he should fight, even only a little bit.
/yeah/, izuku thought, /if it doesn't work tonight, i'll let us go./
if it didn't work that night, he could go back to having no friends
beside a lab partner and a roommate that hated him.
"izuku!" kacchan's voice brought him back to reality.
"what—cchan!" he squeaked.
"did i scare you?" his roommate chuckled. "you were daydreaming again?"
"yeah, sorry," he mumbled.
kacchan frowned. "are you alright?" he asked. "we can stay here if—"
"no!" kirishima and izuku protested at the same time.
"i mean," kirishima tempered, "your costume is amazing, you must have spent a lot of time on it, you should be able to show it off."
"oh, thank you," izuku blushed. "i actually really want to go! it'll be fun!"
kirishima grinned and he saw kacchan glare at his friend. /i guess kacchan ain't beating the crush allegations/, izuku thought.
"whatever," his roommate went to the door. "let's go."
kirishima went after him, soon followed by izuku who had to stay behind to lock the door. he trotted a bit to reach their level, his ghost costume flying around him.
yeah, he'll fight tonight; but if it didn't work, he'll let the summer go.

tbc!
next update will feature mina's halloween party
[a/n] it's already 3.3k words 😭 ill need to find a title, guess it's time to use that hozier lyrics based fanfic title generator!
[a/n] this fic is now called When Summer Ends!
mina was apparently kirishima's best friend. more specifically, they were childhood friends that grew apart in middle school but became close again once in high school. as mina was retelling their story, izuku couldn't help but stare at kacchan.
he wondered if they could have been friends again if they went to the same high school.
or if he had a quirk.
he shook his head. they were roommates now and kacchan still didn't like him very much.
"what about you?" mina's gaze shifted to him. "you're blasty's roommate, right? what's your major?"
"i'm in support," he replied. "i share a lab with hatsume, but i'm mainly focused on quirk analysis."
"oh, that's cool!" mina cheered. "can you do mine? i have—"
izuku smiled as he listened to her blabbing about the specifics of her quirk. he didn't tell her she didn't have to — he had already studied her previous performances in the sport festivals
she did in high school.
"hatsume's working on something she could adapt to your quirk," he said when she mentioned a difficulty she was facing. he sipped on his drink. "i'll take to her about it."
"really?" the girl exclaimed. "that'd be so cool, thank you so much!"
"it's nothing," he mumbled. "happy to help."
"what about your quirk—" she asked but a black-haired guy he recognised as cellophane pat her shoulder.
"mina," he called. "mineta's stuck in the vent."
he watched as the girl pinched the bridge of her nose. "again?" she huffed. "which girl was he trying to impress this time?"
"i think it was a guy," cellophane hummed. "shindo yo, i think?"
"doesn't he have a girlfriend already?"
"they broke up apparently. my man thought he had a chance. kaminari's trying to get him out, but i think only you acid will do."
izuku was lost between all the names that were mentioned in the exchange as he only knew their hero personas for most of them.
he couldn't comprehend how someone would go inside a vent only to impress someone, but wasn't he there for a man as well? he hoped he wouldn't end up stuck somewhere because of it.
"midoriya," mina's voice brought him back to the present.
"i have to go, but we'll catch up later?"
"sure," he smiled. "good luck."
"thanks!" and like that, mina and his friend walked away. maybe it was his sign to call the whole thing off? he looked around and his gaze met kacchan's.
he was standing against the wall, glaring at him. izuku gulped, turning away.
/you wouldn't give up it was you in my place, right?/ he told himself. he stared at the drink in his hand. /maybe i just need more courage./
he slugged its content in one go, and if he ended up stuck inside a vent too, then what? he wouldn't know unless he tried. he strolled around the large house in search of red. he knew he needed to do this now,
or he wouldn't get another opportunity. it was his last chance; if it didn't work, he'll let him go.
he found him in the living-room, dancing with everyone else. izuku made his way among the other dancers and extended his arm toward him.
just as he was about to reach him, the lights shut down.
maybe it was the alcohol, or maybe was it the urgency, the tension, the frustration that never stopped growing inside of him since summer had ended; izuku grabbed the vest of his target and
pulled him closer — crashed their lips together.
he felt kirishima kiss him back, his hands finding their rightful place on each side of his head. izuku felt his heart could explode at any moment.
but when the lights came back and the kiss broke, izuku stared at a shade of red he hadn't expected to see. because those eyes didn't belong to kirishima — they were kacchan's.
his eyes widened and his throat went dry; he couldn't hear the cacophony of his own thoughts
as they were too loud, too wild, too panicked, too confused, too—
"i didn't know you liked me too, nerd," kacchan's soft voice cleared his head. his thumbs wiping off the tears he didn't know were there.
maybe it was the alcohol, or maybe was it those feelings he had buried deep inside of him after they graduated middle school, perhaps was it the urgency, the tension, the fond look in kacchan's eyes; izuku grabbed his neck, pulling him closer and kissed him again.
one month after his heart was tossed aside, summer had finally ended.

Here are my thoughts about the differences between Mineta and Uraraka's characters regarding their admiration for Deku. Idk where else to post this rant (I should maybe try reddit? or tumblr?)
As a disclaimer, I'd say that I obviously know more about Mineta's character.
- He's more easy to analyse because he's a side character and where he stand to Deku isn't ambiguous.
- I feel sometimes as if Uraraka's character lacks—
—not in a "she sucks" way but more like we sometimes expect to get answers regarding her development but get only a few because she's put on the sidelines. Her development hasn't the same importance depending on the arc.
Katsuki entered the bar and went straight to the man he was looking for as soon as he saw him. /Green hair, green eyes, you can't miss him,/ Kirishima had said. He sat in front of the guy, looking straight into his eyes.
"You've got twenty minutes to convince me you're not wasting my time," he shot before turning to the waitress to order a drink. "Name's Bakugo Katsuki," he continued, "I don't usually go on blind date, but they kicked me out of the lab for some kind of facilities improvement."
He rolled his eyes and kept going. "It's very inconvenient. We're trying to push the boundaries of human knowledge and we got to stop for what, maintenance?" He sent the guy an exasperated glare, "that's fucking ridiculous if you ask me."
When he notices pro heroes taking position on Ground Beta's buildings as Nezu entered the training field, Katsuki knew shit was about to go down. The principal stood in front of the twenty students, staring at Izuku.
Instinctively, he
moved to place himself behind the nerd.
He could see by his teacher's position that he was ready to fight.
"Midoriya," the mouse said. "There's no need to hide anymore. We know."
Katsuki saw how their classmates glanced anxiously at each other. He only clenched his hands more.
"What do you know?" Izuku asked calmly.
We know you are a villain," Aizawa wrapped his scarf around him. "We know you are the traitor sent by the League."
Silence fell upon the classroom. The tension was so thick that Katsuki didn't dare to breathe.
