Good Morning America/Ethiopia

All eyes are on Washington DC and the US Africa Summit where Ethiopian PM @AbiyAhmedAli is returning triumphantly, following the Pretoria Peace Agreement of Nov 2nd. THREAD...

Follow for coverage of the day 1 of the summit.

As the media depth shows, this is not a minor event.

It was announced back in August during a US Africa Policy "Reset" in which Obama era NSC official @JDevermont returned to the WH, and Blinken and LTG's African Odyessy didn't go as planned.
@JDevermont Following the US Africa Strategy "reset" which many pointed out was exactly the same as the previous policy, Russia proposed to hold a 2nd Russia-Africa leaders summit in the lead up to #COP27 in Addis Ababa. This did not eventuate however.
Here is a thread on the speechifying in South Africa, also featuring the incomparably wonderful SA Foreign Minister Pandor who hosted @SecBlinken for his launch address.
Here there are two threads.
1. Quoted tweet the OP: Looks at the context of the announcement which very unfortunately coincided with @SpeakerPelosi's catastrophically disruptive visit to Taiwan.
2. The OP itself: Discusses Ethiopian implications.
Here is a companion summary conclusions list from the original research thread - this addresses the overall great power competition situation at the time of @SpeakerPelosi's visit to Taiwan.
In hindsight it is now apparent US Africa policy did indeed change in August, particularly with respect to Ethiopia.

Ambassador @MikeHammerUSA took up his position - and along with the UN and EU visited Tigray at the beginning of August.
His selfie did not go down well in Addis, nor among Ethiopian diaspora, and nor did the joint US/UN/EU communique issued at the end of the envoys mission. Hammer was accompanied by @HannaTetteh - UN Addis based - & @EUSR_Weber the EU's replacement for Eritrea Hawk @Rondos_EU.

That @mvreisen & @SimonMarksFSN believe TPLF re the presence of Eritrea forces is understandable - they are partial to TPLF lies.

But is there any credible evidence to back the claim? My understanding is it has never been true. If it were evidence would have been furnished.
During this most recent war, starting 24/8, the claims wrt Eritrea were a key component of TPLF information operations from day one. Clearly they believed that such allegations would assist then with their US/EU supporters.
At one point there were widespread reports about Eritrean forces attacking from Afar, and about Afar not allowing them to pass through Berhale. I checked these with the Afar and they are not true.

I think we need to open up a discussion of Lambton Harbour Management & waterfront. This story dates back to 2000 in the very early days of battle to stop the WCC ruining Wellington's Waterfront, a battle that predates that by decades. scoop.co.nz/stories/HL0001…
On 20 January 2000 Scoop was not yet 6 months old. It was launched on June 10th the previous year, Putin had just become the Prime Minister of Russia and George Bush the President of the US. #Y2K had come and gone without incident.

Could you please explain @mrubin1971 what interest the AEI has in this conflict?
On the basis of your intemperate and ignorant rant I’m going to assume you are either a neo-colonial moron or just another redundant mouthpiece of the TPLF. More likely the latter.

Your foolishness / avarice threatens a fragile peace. But I expect you don’t give toss.
You are fast becoming a poster child for the face of the ugly America in Africa.

It looks like the Democratically elected Federal Govt of Ethiopia and its UN partners have done an extraordinary job of exceediing experctations with aid delivery to Tigray - both before and after the latest round of conflict (Aug 22-Nov 15).
4000 aid vehicles means (based on a @WFP press release on 25/11 with a count of 96 trucks) that 3000+ vehicles entered Tigray in the last 3 weeks.

This appears to have ended the famine there - making up for 2.5 months of TPLF war interrupted shipments
@WFP But someone (UNSG @AntonioGuterres?) clearly needs to tell @WHO and its DG @DrTedros the good news as he seems to be completely of the loop on this.
