Bout was in prison bc after numerous attempts to prove he was illegally dealing in arms they only kept finding the goods were legal and that he was working for the pentagon, then they set up an elaborate DEA sting getting to him through an old associate to sell to “FARC rebels”

USA has repeatedly upset other countries with an incredibly aggressive approach to entrapment and extradition via the DEA, by creating elaborate traps pretending to be groups they have labeled as tied to illicit drug trade & using that as proof of conspiracy to harm US nationals

“The way Irizarry tells it dozens of other federal agents, prosecutors, informants and in some cases cartel smugglers themselves were all in on the three-continent joyride known as “Team America” that chose cities for money laundering pick-ups”
