State Minister for Defence; Hon. Peter Otai, Vice President Paulo Muwanga, President Milton Obote & UNLA Army Commander Gen. Tito Okello Lutwa at @StateHouseUg in May 1984.
A year later, Muwanga and Okello were part of a group that deposed Obote in a coup in July 1985./1
After the fall of the Obote II government , Hon. Peter Otai formed the Uganda Peoples Army (UPA) in 1987 to oppose the new NRA government until a peace settlement was reached in 1992. He passed on in the UK where he lived for many years in Jan 2020./2
Considered the de facto 6th President of #Uganda, Paulo Muwanga's fortunes declined after the fall of Obote. Appointed as Prime Minister (for only 24 days) after the 1985 coup, he was arrested in 1986 after the NRA takeover & had two stints in prison before his death in 1991./3
Gen. Tito Okello was more fortunate. He went into exile in 1986 where he remained until 1993 before being invited back by his succesor, @KagutaMuseveni. He passed on 3 years later at 82 years.
His son, Hon. @okelloryem, currently serves as State Minister @UgandaMFA@GovUganda./4

Born in Rukungiri district, Kashillingi completed his A-level's at @ABASINIYA_KCB in 1967 and travelled to Mbarara hoping to join the @UgandaPrisons. But destiny dealt him a different hand, an extraordinary one at that. /1
Denied entry into @UgandaPrisons because of his height, Kashillingi was lodging with a relative when he heard of an Army recruitment drive ongoing in the town. Kashillingi rushed into town only to find that the process had already ended but that didn't stop him this time./2
When an order came for the recruits to board trucks destined for training school, he simply boarded as though he too had been selected. It marked the beginning of his career. His training would see him train in the UK (admin course), Iraq and Libya (commando courses) in 1970s./3

Today marks exactly 23 years since the passing of Gen. Chefe Ali aka Eriya Mwine, former Chief of Staff UPDF (1996-1998).
It was Chefe Ali who recruited his schoolmate, Emmanuel Gisa, the man many would come to know as Fred Rwigyema./1
Together with 26 others, they secretly left Uganda in 1976 to undergo military training in Tanzania & Mozambique under the guidance of @FRELIMONLINE.
3 years later, the group aka FRONASA marched into Kampala as part of the allied liberation force that deposed Idi Amin Dada./2
But war soon broke out in 1981 against the new Obote regime as various forces took up arms. One of these outfits, UNLF-Anti Dictatorship, set up a military base in the Rwenzori mountains with 55 men & 16 guns with Chefe Ali, Prof E. Rugumayo, Lt. J. Nasasira & others as leaders./3

The man believed to have single handedly propped up the Obote II regime as it fought multiple rebellions in the country.
The man whose death marked the beginning of the end of the Obote II regime.
But he was much more than that./1
Born in 1940 in Loro, Northern Uganda, Ojok joined the Uganda Rifles (UR) in 1963. He then trained in the U.K at the Mons Officer Cadet School & later on at the Staff College Camberley. Between 1963-71, he served in various junior roles rising to the rank of Major./2
On Jan 24 1971, Maj Ojok was part of the team incl. Lt. Col Tito Okello, IGP Erinayo Oryema & others that was tasked with arresting Idi Amin. The group was overseeing the operation at @Parliament_Ug buildings when Amins loyalists overpowered the arrest teams & launched a coup./3

One of the first 3 Ugandans selected to fly the first Ugandan presidential @GulfstreamAero jet acquired by the @GovUganda in 1972.

Trained in Israel, USA and Iraq, Gen Kiiza is a veteran of the 1978 Uganda-Tanzania war in which he led the Uganda Army Airforce (UAAF) MiG-21 "Suicide Strike Command" squadron (nicknamed "Sungura" by Idi Amin) against the Tanzanian army & Ugandan exile rebel forces./2
In 1972, he was part of the UAAF force that repulsed Ugandan exiles from Tanzania flying a Fouga Magister jet (one of 12 jets supplied by Israel in 1965) which was fired upon by the attacking forces; Luckily the bullets went through the unoccupied co-pilot's seat. /3
