"We have just celebrated Christmas, the wonderful festive days, with Christmas trees, lit candles, and children full of expectations. At the darkest time of the year, Christmas shines brightly. Now the new year is just around the corner, tonight we are celebrating New Year’s Eve. A year lies ahead of us which we shall meet with expectation but also with concern, for we see turbulence and upheaval in the world at large. Some years stand out clearly in our minds because we associate them with specific events. We remember the year 1943 for the Rescue of the Danish Jews. It was 80 years ago in October. What are we to do when innocent people are attacked?"
"We must do what the Danish population did then. Ordinary citizens helped their fellow human beings quite spontaneously. They alerted their neighbour, hid a colleague, and brought families to safety in Sweden. The vast majority of Danish Jews succeeded in escaping from the Nazi genocide. At the time when Denmark was occupied, my grandfather, Christian X, expressed the attitude of the people: “Jews were and are esteemed citizens of Danish society”. When we know each other, we are also able to empathise with each other’s fate. Compassion and helpfulness will then follow as a matter of course. The year we are taking leave of tonight – 2023 – will be remembered for the horrible terrorist attack on civilians in Israel. It is incomprehensible. Also the war in the wake of the attack is horrible. There are no winners, only losers. Women and children have not opted for the war themselves, but they are paying the price. Innocent people are the first victims. Not only in the Middle East far from here, but also in Denmark."
“I would like to thank the PM and government again for the fantastic experience at Deichmann last night. I could not have received a better gift.
Then I would like to thank grandma and grandpa for arranging this nice party for me.”
🎥 NRK
“Dear mom & dad, thank you so much for everything you have given me. Mom, we can talk about anything. Thank you for allowing us to lie on the couch and watch series, such as Sex and the City. I really appreciate everything you do for me.”
"Dad, thank you for taking us skiing and surfing and all sorts of activities. You fix and fix, and are calm when the rest of us are not. I'm very grateful that you support me, and I know you will always do that. I'm very fond of you."
Another statement from the TRH Crown Prince Frederik and #CrownPrincessMary about Herlufsholm.
“As parents, we are at this time facing some difficult considerations about our oldest children's schooling. It is discussed in many places - also here on our own Social Media.”
“It makes an impression on us. We share some thoughts and put more words into the considerations we make as a family. Bullying, violence and abuse are never acceptable. We must respond to the painful and devastating events by insisting on changes that ensure a safe environment.”
“We must acknowledge the courage of those who have shared their violent experiences. At the same time, we are the parents of a son who is very happy to go to school. And a daughter who has long been looking forward to starting at the same place.”
"Thank you for this wonderful celebration. Being received by the Torshov Corps and the girls' choir was so nice and you were incredibly good. Thank you to everyone who has helped make this evening an experience for me & everyone who is here."
"I´m very grateful to have us here at Deichman tonight. Here people come in day in and day out to borrow books, work with school, and be social. I myself have been here several times and it has become such a nice place."
"The visits were a reminder of how lucky we are in Norway, a reminder of our democracy and the secure governance system. I feel very lucky to have grown up in a country where we trust each other."
