Most of the information we have about pre-NRC Lilia has come from Silver: he explains that Lilia is “one of the royal guards who serve the rulers of Briar Valley” in the present tense and
“I have heard that his martial prowess is widely recognized and that the queen trusts him greatly”.
Silver also tells us that “he has stepped down from the front lines now, but he once earned medals for his myriad feats in battle”.
During Halloween Silver explains that Lilia’s “work” once “led him to the border between life and death. He glimpsed the Spectral Realm, said ‘Oh, crumbs!’ And came right back”.
Silver also says that Lilia can run on on lotus leaves across the surface of water (considered to be “the mark of a true warrior”)
In his birthday vignette Lilia himself explains that he raised Malleus, Silver and Sebek from when they were children.
(although Malleus has a large age gap that separated him from the other two)
Lilia says he was originally very strict with training Silver and Sebek, forcing them to swim in fast-moving rivers and climb cliffs where the air was thin.
Lilia says that one day he had the realization that he is no longer on the front lines and the two children were not his soldiers, and that he was wrong to treat them as such. He became more hands-off with them, then, allowing them to play freely and watching over them from afar.
Lilia is Silver’s adoptive father, though Silver tries to refer to him as “senpai” rather than “father” in front of the other students.
Silver joins the Culinary Crucible course in order to “cook more enjoyable meals for the father who raised me”--
--and to earn money, as “any money I can save up now will help me to be less of a burden on my father later”.
Silver says, “he raised me as a single father. I owe him everything. I often find myself wishing he could live a very long happily ever after."
"And I haven’t done anything to repay him for all that he’s done for me. I’m not just going to leave this matter to the stars, of course. I’m going to do everything I can for him too.”

Silver explains that in his younger days, “it never occurred to me just how much he did to keep me safe”, and shares an anecdote from when he was a child and he tried to cook on his own:
After falling asleep with the stove burning, Lilia came home to a burnt mess of a soup and a panicking Silver. Riddle asks if Silver was scolded, and Silver responds that no, his father was just glad he was unharmed, that failure was the mother of all success--
--it was okay as long as he learned something—and then ate the ruined mess of a meal. Silver says he is “proud to be his son”.

Some NRC information and emphasis on how foreign everything is to the protagonist through comparisons of how very different school systems overseas (and in other dimensions?) are when compared to those in Japan.
Lilia may be intentionally styling himself to appear as cute and unimposing as possible. In a voice line he says that, while the long sleeves of his oversized lab wear coat do get in his way...
...he deals with it because "It's cuter this way", and Silver says that “Lilia prides himself on his cuteness”.
Lilia describes himself as “one seriously mysterious and attractive boy” (using the word “bishounen” in the original Japanese), and as one of the top--
--three low-key guys at the school, with Kalim and Cater. He explains that he actively tries to “act like Diaomnia’s adorable mascot”, though he “was once a feared captain in Briar Valley”.
During the Phantom Bride event, Lilia is rejected by Eliza for being “too cute by half”.
