Year 2022 was a busy year for the pro-Kremlin disinformation machinery. Russia launched an unprovoked war of aggression against its peaceful neighbour Ukraine, covering the heinous act with a thick layer of #disinformation and information manipulation #DontBeDeceived
During the coming days, let’s recap some of the most brazen and shameless moments of lies and deceit by the pro-Kremlin #disinformation in 2022 👇
Before we get into specifics, it’s important to recall that the Kremlin has been stoking tensions and spreading harmful lies about Ukraine for years before the all-out attack on 24 February #DontBeDeceived#StandWithUkraine euvsdisinfo.eu/disinformation…
One of the more heinous lies, sustained by the Kremlin throughout 2022 was the #disinformation trope that as there is no war, only a “special military operation”, there cannot be any war crimes. #DontBeDeceived euvsdisinfo.eu/the-chilling-b…
The self-delusion of Russian propagandists was exposed early on, when some over-zealous pro-Kremlin pundit, believing their own trope of “three day war” actually published a pre-prepared article already celebrating Russian victory on 26 February. bbc.com/news/technolog…
When the war was not won in three days, the pro-Kremlin #disinformation pundits scrambled to brand the ongoing atrocities with visual identity and symbolism fit for mass consumption. And so the hodgepodge “Z” campaign was born to rally the mobniks. euvsdisinfo.eu/the-kremlin-ha…
Another pro-Kremlin #disinformation trope emerging repeatedly has been the incessant false allegation of Nazism reborn in Ukraine and the consequent portrayal of Putin as the tamer of neo-Nazism. euvsdisinfo.eu/why-does-putin…
So, unsurprisingly, when the Russian invaders deliberately bombed a maternity hospital in #Mariupol, the pro-Kremlin #disinformation, unable to deny the crime, conveniently blamed it on the Nazis once again. No one was fooled. euvsdisinfo.eu/no-we-did-not-…

Ukrainian counteroffensives according to Russian #disinformation. Many excuses and explanations suggest confusion and disarray among the propagandists. Extreme calls for escalation and recent cries for a quick annexation betray deepening desperation.

Disinfo: “Russian Army is regrouping. No worries; all is going according to plans. Only minimal reduction of the territory controlled.”
This excuse featured immediately after the first occupied territories were lost to the liberating Ukrainian forces. washingtonpost.com/world/2022/09/…
Disinfo: “A clever Russian trap that Ukraine walked into.”
A variation of the "regrouping - no panic" excuse. Attempting to preserve self-respect. Narrative was presented by the firebrand TV host Vladimir Solovyov after the first shock sunk in with Russian audiences.
For 31 years Moldova 🇲🇩 has safeguarded its freedom & independence against external turmoil & internal challenges. As it celebrates its Independence Day today, we asked the Moldovans what it means to them. This is what they said: 👇🧵
Independence is a process, not the result, proving it is a test of civic maturity.
Independence means freedom and inspires one to write a love song.
Today marks the 14th anniversary of the Russo-Georgian War waged back in 2008. We continue to record Russian #disinformation narratives targeting audiences both in #Georgia and elsewhere.
In the thread below, we have collected some of the key disinformation narratives:
Russian disinformation has been denying any responsibility over the conflict, and attempting to deflect the blame. For example, by blaming the Kremlin's favorite scapegoats, "Anglo-Saxons", for the war. euvsdisinfo.eu/report/the-ang…
Another "oldie-but-not-goldie" narrative from the Kremlin chest of lies attempts to deny Georgia's territorial integrity, sovereignty, and in the worst extreme, also the right to exist as a nation. euvsdisinfo.eu/report/abkhazi…

It's often claimed that conspiracy thinking is becoming more & more common. @JoeUscinski et al ran 3 studies to find out, if it's really the case. Long story short – they didn’t find any systematic evidence for an increase in conspiracism. journals.plos.org/plosone/articl…
All too often, people not only believe misinformation, but also condone misinformation they don't believe. Daniel Effron & @BA_Helgason had a look at 3 psychological factors that might explain this phenomenon: partisanship, imagination & repetition. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
Repetitiveness is a defining feature of pro-Kremlin disinformation, as it makes their lies sound more believable. Over the next weeks, we're bringing you an overview of five key narratives in pro-Kremlin disinfo. Narrative #1: the Elites v the People. euvsdisinfo.eu/key-narratives…
By employing the ‘Threatened Values’ narrative, Pro-Kremlin outlets ridicule alleged Western ‘moral decay’, and trample on Western views on the rights of women, ethnic and religious minorities, and LGBTQI+ groups.
Narrative #2: "Threatened Values". euvsdisinfo.eu/key-narratives…
The pro-Kremlin #disinformation narrative of 'lost sovereignty' is ultimately a narrative of disempowerment. It aims to erode trust in the democratic institutions and corrupt the very foundations of democracy.

For over 100 days, Russia has continued its unjustified war against Ukraine. Every day accompanied with brutality and #disinformation. Read more here: euvsdisinfo.eu/reality-built-…
Russia has used #disinformation to deflect the blame for the unimaginable atrocities that they have committed in Ukraine, and in futile attempts to undermine the international support and solidarity for Ukraine.
Kremlin #disinformation completely disregards human suffering. It twists Russian military’s indiscriminate attacks on civilians & critical infrastructure as a humanitarian endeavour, at the same time peddling doomsday scenarios as part of Kremlin's scare tactics.
