For some in India, today is Christmas day, and for a few, it's tulsi poojan, which, of course, has a very bogus religious logic. But for us, this is #Manusmritidahandiwas. On this day in 1927, #BabaSaheb and his companions burned Manu smriti during the days of
#mahadsatyagarha. This is one of the main events of the fight of dalit struggle against the evil brahminical system. Let's remember this event proudly.
Upper caste savarana made all effort so that Dr. Ambedkar would not get land for the event. But a Muslim gentleman named
Fatte khan gave his private land for the event. Volunteers have to take a resolution on 5 points.
1. I don't believe in the varna system.
2. I don't believe in the caste system.
3. I believe untouchability is a curse to the Hindu religion, and I will honestly try to end this
evil practice.
4. Due to inequality, I will not accept any restrictions Hindus make on eating food.
5. I believe every untouchable has an equal right to a temple, school, water sources and other facilities.
An alter made in front of the pandal to burn manusmriti, a six-inch
deep and 18-inch wide alter, was made in 2 days by six people and was filled with sandalwood. Four pillars were built on four corners of the altar, three containing banners. Banners say
1. 'ManuSmriti chi Dahan Bhoomi.' Means the burial site for manusmriti.
2. Destruction of untouchability
3. Let's bury Brahminism.
On the night of 25th December 1927 at 9:00 pm, manusmriti was put on the altar and burned by a brahmin companion of baba saheb Bapusaheb sahasrebuddhe and five other dalit saints. Baba saheb gave a historic speech at
this meeting. Here are some crucial points from the speech.
-we have to understand why they stop us from drinking water from this tank. Our main struggle is to smash the shackle of the Varna system. This will be the initial point of our struggle.
- He compared this meeting to the meeting of the estate representative called by King Louis XVI of France. After this meeting, the revolution started and continued for the next 15 years. He talked about French Revolution in detail.
- Our goal is not only to finish the untouchability but to destroy the varna system completely because it is the root cause of the problem.
- He said the root of untouchability is in the prohibition of inter-caste marriage. We must break this. He asked the upper caste to give up
the shastras and accept the doctrine of justice so that this social revolution would be held peacefully, and he assured peace from our side.
The brahminical press was very angry and criticized the event and even called Baba Saheb 'Bhimasur.' Dr. Ambedkar wrote many articles
justifying the burning of manusmriti. He mocked the people who didn't read manusmriti and declared we would never accept this book.
He talked about dalit atrocities and said it is because Hindus still follow this book.
When people asked what will our people gain from the burning
manusmriti, he countered with a few points. He said what MK Gandhi got by burning foreign clothes, what they got from burning the 'Gyan Prakash, a book on the marriage of Khan-Malini, and what they got when they burned the book 'Mother India' by Miss Mayo in New York, what they
by boycotting the Simon commission, which was formed for political reforms. These all are ways to protest, so this is our protest against manusmriti.
He also said that the evil varna system created by brahmins would not end even after the burning of manusmriti. Then, the only way
for us would be to leave their Hindu religion.
Let's remember this day again and put another nail in the coffin of Brahminism.
The revolutionary ideas of great Bahujan social reformer and Bahujan hero #periyar_ramaswami had shaken the root of Brahminism in south India. But Periyar's words could not reach north India as they should have.
It was because of the hard work of Lalai Singh Yadav Ji the work of
Periyar reached north India. Attacking the caste system and Brahminism, Periyar said, " The brahmin fools you in the name of the God and prepares you to believe in superstition and himself lead a comfortable life, condemns you by calling you an untouchable. Preying on the deities
for brokerage, I condemn this brokerage, and I also caution you not to trust such brahmins."
Periyar, who has a very good understanding of India's history and geography, said, "on observing the world, it is known that there are no more religions and religious beliefs than India.
The concept of Karma in Buddhism is always a topic of debate. Baba saheb said, "Ignorant Hindus, out of sheer want of understanding, say by comparing merely the similarity of words that Buddhism is the same as Brahminism or Hinduism."
Baba saheb cleared this doubt in his book
'Buddha and his Dhamma.' A thread on the clarity of 'Karma' in Buddhism.
1. IS THE BUDDHIST DOCTRINE OF KARMA THE SAME AS THE BRAHMINIC DOCTRINE?
-There is no doctrine in Buddha's Dhamma which has created as much confusion as the doctrine of 'Karma.'
-The Buddhist doctrine of 'Karma,' however much it may be the similarity of the word, cannot be the same in its connotation as the brahminic law of 'Karma.'
-The premises of the two are so widely different, indeed so widely opposed, that the result of the two cannot be the same
