Hello, #PKM pals - I've tweaked my personal knowledge management workflow very slightly.

Ask me anything 😀

I just finished reading The PARA Method by @fortelabs and thought I'd try it (likely with my own spin).

I'll be PARA-ing, roughly in this order:

• @todoist
• iCloud/my Mac
• Google Drive (personal and work)
• @obsdmd
• @NotionHQ (maybe) Image
Todoist looks good👇

I always feel the need to separate zones of my life at a high level - personal, business, and work.

Can anyone else relate to this? I think it's a mental health/boundary thing.

Next, iCloud... Image
iCloud/Mac👇

Again, at a top level, I have split between personal and business (work is a separate Google Drive).

I do not have many folders on here currently for projects, as most associated documents are in Google Drive or Obsidian.

I am not setting up empty folders. Image

My Obsidian workflow is constantly evolving to suit my needs.

I LOVE seeing other people's workflows, and I am a big fan of 'learning in public'.

With that in mind, this is how I use Obsidian for note-taking and note-making 👇
Obsidian is where I:

• Capture notes and highlights (input).
• Process those capture notes to generate ideas.
• Draft and finalise my own output (e.g. articles).
• Journal.

This tweet thread will focus on note-taking and note-making rather than journalling.
What's new?

I've:

• Merged Working and Permanent Notes together; they are now Atomic Notes (rationale = they're ALWAYS a work in progress).
• Added Project Notes.
• Made everything I capture go to my Inbox folder at the top of the structure so I remember to process it.

Want to know what's in my tech toolkit for academic research and study?

Here's a high-level overview👇🧵
I use:

🟢 @zotero for managing research papers, citations, highlights and annotations.
🟢 @obsdmd for notes.

I also use MS Word for writing assignments - this is not by choice; the university requires it.
🗄 Zotero is a free tool that helps you collect, organise, annotate, highlight and cite research papers. There is an app, too, which suits my workflow well as I tend to read, highlight and annotate papers on my iPad using my Apple Pencil.

I've been tinkering with my Obsidian setup for months now, and it's finally at a stage where I have something that (nearly) works.

In the interest of 'learning in public', it felt like a great time to share.

Here's how I am using Obsidian for note-taking and note-making 👇
Obsidian is where I:

• Capture notes and highlights (input).
• Process those capture notes to generate ideas.
• Draft and finalise my own output (e.g. articles).
• Journal.

This tweet thread will focus on note-taking and note-making rather than journalling.
What's new? I've:

• introduced a home page SOP,
• started using tags consistently,
• focused on input, output and action,
• simplified and flattened my folder structure*.

There are books, articles, podcasts, courses and videos out there with the potential to change your life. The problem is, there's just too much.

To learn from the content you consume, I recommend you design your own personal knowledge management (PKM) system.

Here's how 🧵👇
Before you start designing your PKM system, think about WHY you consume certain types of content.

3 main reasons are likely:

• Entertainment (dog videos on TikTok)
• Information (news)
• Learning (books, courses etc).

Your PKM system is mainly for learning.
Start designing your PKM system using sticky notes as you can allocate an item per note and move them around quickly.

Here's what to do next👇

Wellbeing-driven productivity includes learning to switch off from work.

Here are 20 methods that work for me.

💭 Why not try one this evening or weekend?

A thread 👇
1. Remove work emails from your personal mobile device (hopefully, this one is self-explanatory).
2. Get lost in a TV series or box set (if you are looking for something funny and wholesome I loved Schitt's Creek).
