How this works with Correa: if the Mets wanted him for 12/$315M, it'd be done. Correa was obligated to those terms after agreeing to a deal pending a physical. Clearly the physical didn't go well, since there's no finalized agreement. Unclear where things stand now, but... (1/7)
...we're now four days post-Mets physical. The #SFGiants had about one day post-physical before Scott Boras told them he needed a decision on whether they were going to honor their 13/$350M agreement (that was pending a physical). Deadline passed, and Giants said no. (2/7)
At that point, Correa was no longer bound to the Giants agreement and Boras was free to re-engage with other teams. Less than 12 hours later, Correa had agreed to a new deal—pending a physical—with the Mets.
If Boras is still exclusively negotiating with the Mets... (3/7)
...he's giving them far more time than he gave the Giants. What he should/will eventually do is give the Mets a deadline to honor their 12/$315M agreement. If Mets say they won't honor it due to the physical, Correa's back on the open market. This may have happened already. (4/7)
If that's the case, the Giants are high on the list of teams Boras would circle back to. Whether or not the Giants are even interested depends on exactly what the physical showed. Unfortunately, we just don't know the details so we don't know if SF is even interested. (5/7)
If SF is interested and the Mets won't honor 12/$315M (which at this point seems likely given how much time has passed), this could go any number of ways. Correa could prefer the Mets and work out a new deal with them. The Giants could make the best updated offer. (6/7)
Another team could swoop in.
All depends on what Correa wants and what teams are willing to offer with the knowledge of whatever is wrong with his lower right leg.
Mets and Giants have the advantage of already having done thorough physicals.
We just have to wait and see. (7/7)

More likely than not, Mets sign Correa. Their owner takes risks; the team is good; Correa's good friend is the SS; as far as we know they have a pending deal.
At the same time, Correa was ready to be a Giant a week ago. If Mets back out of 12/$315M, SF definitely still possible.
It's not like Correa should feel too offended by what the Giants did. The Mets have now done the same thing ... with an offer $35M shy of SF's.
The big question, to me, is whether SF even believes he's worth signing at this point. All of this is moot if they don't.
There's also the issue of the Mets owner publicly commenting on the deal before it was official. Boras could claim that the Mets need to honor the agreement because of those statements. But the fact that we're this many days post-physical tells me that they don't intend to do so.
