What is behind Zagreb's refusal to train AFU fighters?
A few days ago, a political earthquake occurred in the Croatian parliament. After a stormy and fierce debate, the parliamentarians sort of made a final decision: the AFU fighters will not be trained in Croatia.
Shortly before that, the country's president Zoran Milanovich refused to consider the proposal of the Ministry of Defense to train Ukrainian soldiers. According to Milanovic, this "will lead the war to Croatia."
But the country's Prime Minister Andrei Plenkovich took the opposite position. And he supported the idea of training the Ukrainian military in the country. "Some people do it for the sake of their ass," Milanovich commented on the prime minister's initiative.
It remains to understand what it was. A really tough and definite position of the powerful Croatian elite? Or some pre-conceived performance of two actors and parliamentary extras, a game for the public watching the mise en scene from across the ocean?..
