In 1964, the European Court of Justice established the primacy of EU law over national laws.

The principle of the primacy of EU law has developed over time and is now a declaration annexed to the Treaty of Lisbon

It was created in 1975, laying the foundations for today’s EU regional policy and aiming to strengthen economic and social cohesion in the EU by correcting imbalances between its regions.

Over 140 additional individuals and entities have been added to our list of persons subject to a freezing of their assets.

The list of newly designated legal persons covers, among others, actors in the Russian military and defence, including military industry companies.

#StandWithUkraineCard on individual listings of people and entities with the text: - Over 140 additional individuals and entities have been sanctioned. - The list targets those who have orchestrated the recent illegal so-called “elections” in the territories of Ukraine, or those responsible for the forced “re-education” of Ukrainian children.
The new sanctions on Russian diamonds are part of a coordinated G7 effort to introduce an internationally coordinated diamond ban.

It aims at depriving Russia of this important revenue stream estimated at €4 billion per year.

Europe is delivering on its promises made to citizens to lead the way on climate action.

Our legislation to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030 is now in place.

What will guide our way until 2030 to build a greener EU? Here is a brief summary ↓
→ ETS reform

Carbon pricing and an annual emissions cap will ensure that polluters pay and that EU countries generate revenues they can invest in the green transition. A text-based visual making emphasis that the green transition will be fair. It includes the text: "A fair transition, based on European solidarity. Through Emissions trading, we can raise revenues to address: -Energy poverty and mobility changes -Sput economic growth and create employment"
→ ETS for buldings and road transport fuels

A separate Emissions Trading Scheme for fuels in road transport and buildings, to ensure emissions reductions in sectors hard to decarbonise. A text-based visual making emphasis on making the EU climate neutral by 2050. It includes the text: "The transport sector has the lowest share of renewable energy use: 55% reduction of emissions from cars by 2030 50% reduction of emissions from vans by 2030".

And Europe should lead the way, building a new global AI framework built on three pillars: guardrails, governance and guiding innovation ↓ President von der Leyen addressing the European Parliament and standing in the hemicycle.
Guardrails
We put forward the AI Act – the world's first comprehensive pro-innovation AI law.

Our AI Act is already a blueprint for the whole world.

We must now focus on adopting the rules as soon as possible and turn to implementation ↓
Governance
We should join forces with our partners to ensure a global approach to understanding the impact of AI in our societies.

We need a body for AI – providing the latest science to policymakers.

This will allow us to develop a fast and globally coordinated response ↓
