TCN COMPLETES CONSTRUCTION OF BRAND NEW TOWER AT KATAMPE
…Restores Bulk Supply Through its Central Area Gas Insulated Substation on Thursday, 5th January, 2023 at about 09:48 pm. The tower construction work and stringing of the Katampe-Central Area lines 1&2 were carried out
by TCN’s contractors in conjunction with TCN Engineering and Lines Crew.
Presently, the Katampe-Central Area Double Circuit transmission lines are supplying bulk electricity to TCN’s 3x60MVA Central Area Substation and the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has
equally started off-taking power from the substation to its customers in Abuja Metropolis.
Recall that on the 7th of December, 2022, TCN’s tower No. 20 at Katampe, was brought down by a truck carrying chippings, causing restricted outage in some areas within the Abuja
Metropolis. With the construction of a new tower and restringing the double circuit line, TCN has restored bulk supply to AEDC’s load center in Central Area.
TCN reiterates its commitment to efficient service delivery and is determined to continue to effectively deliver bulk
electricity to #electricity distribution companies nationwide.
TCN'S WHEELING CAPACITY AND TRANSMITTING PEAK GENERATION
TCN's wheeling capacity as simulated by its System Planning Department is 8,100MW and since the simulation was carried out, TCN has continued to expand the nation's grid by rehabilitating and upgrading brown field/existing
projects and building new/green field projects.
The projects are in various TCN's old or new Substations nationwide, from the North to the South, to the East and West. The projects - substations, lines and systems operations projects are numerous and on ground nationwide.

Several are already in circuit while others are ongoing.
TCN's capacity & capability to transport bulk power is presently above the current bulk power generated into the grid and quantum power being taken by the DisCos.
