Chelsea have moved fast to agree a verbal deal with Atletico Madrid for Joao Felix after late night internal talks where they decided to proceed. As reported, Atleti's loan price dropped from original quote & #CFC expected to pay around £9m & 100% of Felix's wages (£5.3m).
As revealed, although #CFC would love an option to buy, Atleti's starting position has always been a straight loan & they are yet to budge on this position. Chelsea know without one there is less long-term value. But the consensus is short-term needs make a deal worth pursuing.
Another suitor could still technically counter (if quick) since nothing signed, but very advanced. Yet when #AFC and #MUFC (currently focused on Wout Weghorst) held dialogue both made it clear anything above a £5m loan fee was (with no option) too high.
Felix is open to joining #CFC. Chelsea had backed away from signing him but reprioritised him again in the past 48 hours after the two losses to #MCFC and talks with Graham Potter.
(Credit to @David_Ornstein, who was first to call the verbal agreement and Duncan Castles, who reported #CFC reignited interest first).

More on Moises Caicedo. A real possibility #CFC move. Brighton CEO Paul Barber told me no offers received to date, and #BHAFC don't want any high-profile January outgoings, but added he "understands" if opportunities arise. Caicedo firmly on #CFC radar, as revealed in December.
Brighton more likely to engage on Caicedo than Alexis Mac Allister. This is due to Caicedo changing agents, preparing for a move, and because suitors see value in Ecuadorian midfielder, even at £70m. Barber says "£42m would only get his laces" giving a clue as to Caicedo's price.
Mac Allister only signed a new deal before the World Cup and says he's in "no rush" to leave. Brighton also have a club option to extend his 2025 deal by a year. #BHAFC valuation for Mac Allister is now significantly higher than clubs looking at him before World Cup wish to pay.
🗣️ Graham Potter: "We're not in the best moment. The players are hurting like everyone else. My thoughts are you have to fix the team. It's not just one person to solve problems. We have to attack better, create more chances... Joao is a talented player who can help the team."
Potter also confirms Christian Pulisic is likely "out for a couple of months" with a knee injury. Real shame having been given starting opportunities post World Cup.
The Chelsea manager also confirms he's in constant conversations with the ownership group. "I'm in regular dialogue with all the owners, two or three times a week. They have been nothing but supportive."
Told very positive talks took place between Arsenal and Shakhtar on Monday. As reported, sources close to Mudryk say he will be “very disappointed” if a transfer doesn’t happen in January. #CFC have not placed any bid following their own meeting with Shakhtar.
Arsenal have still indicated, directly and via intermediaries, they don’t want to pay €100m. But structure of the deal being discussed will be more important than the final number. Shakhtar wanted more money upfront from the second bid (under €70m).
Told discussed offer will increase overall total but with some less ‘gettable’ add ons. It means #AFC can stick within valuation (& top-end of guaranteed fee they wish to pay) & offer extras that are either less likely or simply worth paying because tied to success if triggered.
🚨 Joao Felix will join Chelsea on loan until the end of the season with a medical scheduled for this week (as @FabrizioRomano first reported) after a full agreement was reached between #CFC and Atleti. As previously reported, loan fee is £9m plus 100% of Felix's wages (£5.3m).
Chelsea have been unable to get an option to buy. As reported back in December, Atleti always offered Felix as a straight loan. This was their position to #MUFC and #AFC also despite back and forth trying for other options. #CFC also hoped to change that but Atleti stood firm.
Chelsea seriously considered Felix in December but didn't move because they saw no value. Meetings then took place internally over last 48h, including with Graham Potter, and it was decided to meet Atleti's terms. Loan fee did drop a little and #CFC decided Felix worth pursuing.
🚨 Exclusive: Qatar Sports Investments are ramping up efforts to find another team to minority-invest in this year. They're actively talking to EPL clubs, including Tottenham. Nasser Al-Khelaifi met with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy earlier this week to hold an exploratory meeting.
It is very early stages, and initial talks, which took place in London a few days ago, are just the start of QSI assessing all options and clubs. But they are expected to make ambitious multi-club investments in 2023. There have been no talks with Liverpool.
QSI already own 23% of Braga and want at least one more minority investment in Europe. And South America is a priority region, too.
From Chelsea’s perspective it’s not Mykhaylo Mudryk or Marcus Thuram. They are working on both. Chelsea know each target has complications. Issue with Mudryk is asking price coupled with the player’s desire to join Arsenal. Challenge with Thuram is getting a deal done now.
#CFC firmly believe they can agree a fee with Borussia Mönchengladbach, potentially as low as £8.5m. But Thuram has lots of options and will be available on a free this summer. Chelsea will push for January and it will likely come down to whether Thuram wants a mid-season move.
Very normal in any window, but especially one as fast moving as January, to advance multiple options. This is due to the likelihood another suitor may be successful and lack of time. The low fee of Thuram in January is of appeal but player buy in is crucial.
