Decoding Zira --
Mansurwal, a hamlet in Zira tehsil has become the sight of an overwhelming protest wave organized by Samyukta Kisan Morcha. It is the lone defiance of a few farmers who are braving extremes to demand their right to clean water. #ZiraSanjhaMorcha
Villagers have become victims of ground water contamination that has given rise to cases of Hepatits B and Cancer. The ethanol plant owned by Malbros Industries in the vicinity has been the site of numerous controversies concerning adherence to safety standards of operation.
Inspite of repeated entreats by the villagers there has been no conclusive progress on the part of the present incumbent to redress the villagers and their sufferings. Instead of entertaining their pleas, battons were used to silence their voices. #ZiraSanjhaMorcha
Industrial operations at the cost of people's lives & a wanton disregard for humanity reduces a voter to a mere number. It's a mockery of human life & its prestige. Farmers have been discredited, humiliated and left in to continue their protests for 5 months now.#ZiraSanjhaMorcha
Few questions ---
Do the poor and the deprived have a right to clean water ?
Do the men who till the soil have a right to clean water for their fields and their family ?
As a netizen can you exercise your right to convey their struggle to those ignorant of it ? #ZiraSanjhaMorcha

The Ghadar Movement (Part V)
The Revolution,The Rise of an Immortal Revolutionary and the eclipse of another.
The 4th August issue of Ghadar Weekly came out exhorting the diaspora to go back to India to liberate it from the yolk of Colonialism. It was an open call for revolt. An assurance of German assistance was made the Ghadarites were incited to kill every English oppressor in sight.
The young enthusiastic comrades of the Yugantar Ashram Sardar Kartar Singh Sarabha, Sri Rughubar Dayal Gupta left U.S.A. without obtaining the core committee's approval. Sardar Kartar Singh Sarabha wanted to reach India before Indian soldiers were dispatched to Europe.

Ghadar Movement (The Revolution)
It was May of 1913,Har Dayal met with G.D.Kumar and his other comrades of the Indian Association in St. JOHNS near Portland. The patriotic zeal of the Sikhs impressed him.
The Monarch hill, where Baba Sohan Singh Ji worked had nearly 200 workers living in vicinity. He mobilized them into contributing towards the Ghadar Movement and listened to their grievances along with Har Dayal. Most workers had earned substantially and purchased properties.
Har Dayal emphasized on a pattern of revolt reminiscent to 1857, when thousands of Muslims and Hindus united to fight the British rule. Most volunteered to support. Meanwhile Guru Nanak scholarship was introduced by the Ghadarites at the suggestion of Bhai Parmanand....
Part -III
The precursor to the Ghadar Movement--
Certain events directly affected the evolution of the discontent among the diaspora into a full fledged armed Movement.
It is important to highlight them before stepping into the Ghadar Movement to give a comprehensive view.
A famous couplet among the diaspora captures the mood of the times ---
Zalam Coolie Pukaran Sanoon,
Karde ne badkhoi ji,
Izzat,aadar,mool na sada
Zalam lah lai loi ji.
Every day was spent in enduring humiliation and the police & administration were apathetic at their best.
The economic slump of 1907 further aggrevated the misery of the diaspora with political parties rallying to win votes of White Labor Unions in British Columbia.Protests and organized rioting mainly against the Indian immigrants erupted sporadically.
The background of the Gadhar Movement ----- ( PART-- II)
In my limited understanding it is extremely important to appreciate the background behind the movement now that I endeavor to create detailed threads about the movement. So, we will begin with the events preceding the ....
Ghadar Movement. In this trail I have attempted to highlight the plight of the diaspora who migrated there and battled extraordinary odds to gain a permanent foothold. The Punjab was annexed by the British in 1849 after a series of Anglo Sikh wars. It led to British forays into...
Punjab.Punjab became a cauldron of imperialist market economy with network ofofficials, laws, regulations & courts.Punjab became an export-oriented agrarian economy tailored to serve British interests at fantastic costs to the native farmers by 1860s. Taxes were heightened.
In my solemn quest to honor the contributions of the Indian diaspora,I have resolved to highlight one of the most extraordinary uprising of 20th century India -- The Ghadar Movement.
We remain indebted to these noble souls who engineered this movement to free India.....
It will an insufficient tribute if I merely brush over some of the events, hence a deeper narration will do justice to their memory.
It was in 1913(Oregon,California), when a bespectacled genius and a polymath Lala Har Dayal laid foundation of a radical political philosophy.
The movement had its roots in the first generation of immigrants to USA and Canada from the late 19th century and the first decade of the 20th century. The political philosophy of integral armed struggle against British rule became the nucleus of this great movement.
