BOUNDARIES ~ With the discovery of Orhan & Ifakat, Ferit turns to the worst of his attitudes. Trust in life broken, he goes overboard w/ his need to control. Simultaneously, Seyran becomes firmer w/ her boundaries. My 🧵 on Ep17 #YalıÇapkını/1
Though he came to Defne’s w/ wrong intentions, he responds to Seyran’s steadfastness. Through his caustic & eventually broken behavior, he lets her hold him, calm him down. He doesn’t shove her away. #YalıÇapkını/2
In this poignant scene where Seyran comes & holds him, Ferit says, “I’m sorry.” I interpret that as an apology for his/family’s weakness; that she has to witness this kind of betrayal, & also see the great Ferit Korhan be so broken. #YalıÇapkını/3
When she tries to make it about her own reactions, he rightfully tells her it can’t possibly match his emotional state. These are people he grew up under. Her understanding of his sadness & just holding him w/o demands is the sign of a woman sure of herself. #YalıÇapkını/4
She’s setting examples for how one can be supportive even when things aren’t perfect. One needs to rely on eo. She reaffirms by saying you’d do the same for me later in the evening when he doesn’t go down for dinner. #YalıÇapkını/5
In the meanwhile we see manifestations of Ferit’s emotional destruction. He reacts egotistically to Seyran’s job offer, esp. when he learns that Efe is another version of himself, just on steroids. Efe is a self-made, successful man on top of being a womanizer. #YalıÇapkını/6
When he tells Defne why he married Seyran, it only shows how delusional Feral Ferit has become. He forgot he married her b/c he was forced to marry someone from Antep & he just happened to like her more than her sister. Ferit is the biggest liar to his own self. #YalıÇapkını/7
And it’s b/c of this trait – where he keeps lying to himself abt why he’s w/ Seyran, his inadequacy laid bare w/ Seyran’s insistence in pursuing the job, that he goes after his groomed little puppet P. Step 2 of his mental devolvement: force control on what he can. #YalıÇapkını/8
His behavior w/ P is psychotic. Her reaction also suggests that she sees him as being sick. This isn’t how he was. He’s trying to hurt her to get her to cry. He keeps provoking her. As Seyran said, if he isn’t good, no one else can be good. #YalıÇapkını/9
Especially P, who’s been at his beck & call for years, can’t walk away. He’s the one who can call it quits. Thinking P doesn’t have it in her, he focuses on Serter as the source of her courage & goes after him. If Serter is neutered, P will go back to ‘normal’. #YalıÇapkını/10
Hitting a wall at Ps, he’s onto Step 3: manipulate power plays. He hones in on Sultan. He wants to test her loyalty. His mannerisms confirm a past dalliance (🤮). For now, Sultan remains loyal to Ifakat & gets punished for it. #YalıÇapkını/11
Seyran’s resolve against the Korhans, the female support & taking Kazim’s help to secure her position of power ~ intelligent & laudable. She’s establishing boundaries. The night before, she was willing to let Ferit express himself. In the morning – nothing doing. #YalıÇapkını/12
Though she doesn’t know Defne’s possible games, she rightfully sticks to her decision to meet w/ Efe & gather all the information before she decides anything. She doesn’t let Ferit’s words deter her & it’s interesting that he likes her establishing boundaries. #YalıÇapkını/13
Her ability to articulate his flaws & sticking to her convictions are part of what he respects. During this emotional upheaval w/ family, he trusts only her & lets her see his vulnerable side. W/ dinner in the room negotiated, Seyran teaches him abt compromise #YalıÇapkını/14
Ferit likes that Seyran played interference & protected his desire to be in the room. By the time they’re at the table, it’s a forgone conclusion that Ferit won’t object to her meeting Efe. A resurrection of their bet even has him agreeing to take her himself. #YalıÇapkını/15
His chat w/ Halis is beautiful. He is another figure in the family whom he fears but trusts fully. He understands his grandfather. He questions Halis’ advice to see himself through Seyran’s eyes; if there’s anger, understand the source of that anger. #YalıÇapkını/16
Ferit’s inclination to run from truths is embedded in his question, “wouldn’t it be worse (if I were to ask)?” One can’t grow w/o conflict & intimacy can’t form if one doesn’t learn from conflict. Feeling cared for by both Dede/Seyran, Ferit happily goes to sleep. #YalıÇapkını/17
This journey of being caustically unsupportive to his willingness to accompany her is progress in #SeyFer learning to navigate mutual boundaries & deepening trust. BUT we are talking about the mentally unstable Ferit the writer loves for us to hate. #YalıÇapkını/18
After these beautiful moments shared w/ his wife & Dede, salak Ferit is back to his pea-brained ideas about separating P from Serter, & is gratifyingly cornered by a swarm of mafia folks after he hits Serter. The fans cheer for him to be beaten #YalıÇapkını/19
The major takeaway for #SeyFer from this last scenario: Ferit dismissing Seyran & saying she’ll just wait b/c he said so crosses w/ Seyran taking the reigns of her own life & going to the meeting herself even though she’d trusted Ferit to keep his promise. #YalıÇapkını/20
The inconsistent behavior by Ferit has taken so many liberal interpretations of multiple medical diagnoses that the writer has only managed to produce a male lead who’s utterly despicable, w/ little left for redemption. #YalıÇapkını/21
Ferit has zero self-regulation, zero regard for Seyran’s well-being & happiness & absolutely no life plan other than coast on family name & money to feed his insatiable arrogance. Whatever little humanity had been built in earlier episodes are dead & gone #YalıÇapkını/22
This P business has extended far beyond its expiration date. There is no genuine depth to #SeyFer to root for. All their positive exchanges have gotten demolished by the unhinged presentation of scenarios that do little to build on plot or character. #YalıÇapkını/23
Ratings are on decline & will continue on this trend if writers can’t present their lead characters in a coherent fashion. The writers have to explain how Ferit ends up such a douchebag while he has access to the wisdom of Halis/ love of Gulgun & now Seyran. #YalıÇapkını/24
W/o explanations, it’s been a marathon of new & even more deplorable aspects of Ferit. I’m tired. I get it. He’s a nutjob. Get him committed or show progress already. All #SeyFer exchanges from beg. till now are hollow. I’ve reached my boundaries #YalıÇapkını/25

Finally finished #YalıÇapkını 29; I won’t be surprised if it takes me longer next week. Seyran did the right thing for her. Not a single man in her life - one who calls her daughter, one who calls her granddaughter, one who calls her wife, treated her like a human being. /1
Ferit pushed her buttons w/ P till the end, refusing to put boundaries around the spineless sloth b/c he’s Ferit Korhan & only he gets to decide when it’s the end. Seyran’s pleas, requests fell on deaf ears while he still kept chatting with Sadik. #YalıÇapkını /2
Why did Ferit storm Kazim’s house a second time? How many more times would he repeat this cycle? He misbehaves or his past catches up with him, Seyran leaves, & he forces her to come back b/c they are the Korhans. #YalıÇapkını/3

1Sen says the story was always supposed to go towards SeyFer divorce & Ferit plan to marry P. That assertion was made at ~ 19. Did the fans hold a gun to their heads that they took 10 weeks, 2 mafia interventions & Seyran suddenly become unbending after everything she embraced? 1
Did the fans force the writer to pen a convoluted plot about a Ifakat scheming that Ferit discovers & never discloses to the one who matters? Did the fans force 1Sen to keep inciting the fandom w/ unnecessary posts about P, putting a target on the girl’s back? 2
Did the fans force a Seyran who went from saying “I’ll teach you everything you need to know” to this unyielding woman unwilling to see Ferit’s sense of commitment? 3

OBJECTIVITY ~ when emotions run high, human beings lose sight of this. #SeyFer displays this in copious amounts & so do the tired fans who are spent from watching the seemingly same rigamarole for 18 weeks. Here’s my analysis 🧵 for Ep 18 #YalıÇapkını/1 Image
We are still reeling from Ferit’s psychotic skit w/ P in 17, when it got piled on w/ his altercation w/ Serter, screaming spree w/ P over phone, & another explosive argument w/ Seyran, during which he even sends Ifakat packing #YalıÇapkını/2
Separated by time & less emotional investment in the characters, here’s my interpretation. Ferit had been in a toxic relationship for 3 yrs. Neither grew from e/o & both exploited the other’s weaknesses to hold onto what they needed. #YalıÇapkını/3

Alternate POV: "I'm ashamed for you" was not said to Seyran. #SeyFer is going through a power struggle to see how much each can assert boundaries on the other. He'll create a scene at the restaurant but maybe he gets closer to accepting his feelings for her #YalıÇapkını/1 Image
On a wide spectrum of how 'abuse' is defined, Ferit tries to make himself look better against Kazim's more crude/visible form of abuse. He doesn't self-reflect enough to accept the psychological abuse he inflicts on Seyran #yalıçapkını/2 Image
Just because he doesn't hit doesn't mean that his decrees hurt her any less. Seyran's reflexive response to the perceived oppression from Ferit is to lash out harshly. She also doesn't appreciate how much Ferit accepts this self-expression compared to Kazim. #yalıçapkını/3

In r’ships hurtful words/actions are said/taken. Sometimes w/ intention, or as a habit, or blinded by anger or whatever. One can forgive but one doesn’t forget. Why is it worthy for Seyran to keep fighting for this r’ship? What does love really mean to her? #YalıÇapkını/1
In earlier episodes, she made it clear if there’s no trust, there’s no love. She moved on from Yusuf solely on this principle. She still doesn’t trust Ferit w/ her heart but she loves him. Why? B/c he played savior? Made her feel special at times? Habit? #YalıÇapkını/2
He’s humiliated her so many times - I can understand why it’s difficult for her to leave the marriage - but why is her feelings shown as being love? Does she really think he’ll change? Is she another P in the making who’ll become complacent for ‘love’? #YalıÇapkını/3

There are 🧵 on Ferit’s psychological disorder, most likely Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD). I’m not a trained psychologist; I don’t find his charlacterization or plots to be consistent enough to provide a clinical perspective on his character #YalıÇapkını /1
Taking surface elements from NPD & transposing them onto Ferit or how he affects people around him is a rather irresponsible approach to highlighting the problem, IMO. Either do it with full integrity with clinical consultants on staff or write a good drama #YalıÇapkını/2
My analyses will stay away from trying to provide clinical perspectives. I focus on the actors’ interpretations of their roles & a plot coherence that’s defensible. #YalıÇapkını/3
