You know that just saying "Self ID doesn't have any impact on the Equality Act" over and over doesn't actually MEAN it doesn't have an impact on the Equality Act, don't you? It VERY obviously does to anyone who can join dots. Pretty sure the EHRC & equality experts agreed.
Affirmations and mantras don't change hard reality, I'm afraid, or the fact that other people in diverse societies have rights and needs that matter too. Saying isn't being. A bit like just saying "I care about equality, inclusivity, human rights, fairness and diversity"
meaning diddly squat if you demonstrate continually that you don't in fact care about or understand any of those things at all when it comes to anyone at all in society who doesn't identify in the way you find edgy and fashionable, doesn't come from the exact same background,
generation, social class or social milieu as you do, & won't follow your mantras exactly, purely and to the letter in the manner that you deem the only acceptable way to think. This is superficial, wholly narcissistic, ignorant, value-free cosplay

So today, I've been accused of causing non-existent trans suicides by saying "I exist, so does reality and my needs matter too", being a biological essentialist (by someone who doesn't understand the term but thinks some men are women because to them,
'woman' means 'sex stereotypes of femininity and after all, they're only there to serve anyway) believing in rigid sex stereotypes, and not being a 'true' feminist. By people who cheer on a baby pink and blue sex stereotype flag, women who literally put men first at all times
including in their own sex category, hate any other women who stand up for legal rights they take for granted, and sneer openly at other women talking about misogyny and vulnerable women, a 'socialist' who thinks supporting the inner feels and misogynist

Again, Emily, please can we have some concrete evidence about a) who the "trans community" actually is and who is included, given it's actually made up of several demographics, from distressed teenage girls to autogynephilic middle aged men,
and b) what exactly is "marginalised" and "vulnerable" about all of these people compared to all the other marginalised and vulnerable groups in society, for example, female rape victims, women in prisons, homeless people, people in poverty, disabled people,
for instance who appear to have far less of a voice and far less of the ear of governments and middle class media outlets than "the trans community", which has not yet been defined clearly, actually does?

If the last few years have taught me anything is how deeply entrenched misogyny is, how complacent people are, how quickly women's rights are thrown to the wolves (including by some women themselves) & how many men like this REALLY do not give a fuck about women or equality.
It's also been shocking and eye opening how incompetent our politicians are, and how tribalism is more important to more people than facts, integrity or values.
Classism is also entrenched in our society. Shocking how many who identify as "liberal" and "left" really do not give a damn about people less privileged than themselves, are authoritarian and have a very shaky understanding of fundamental human rights. Society is broken.

Honestly? I now think we're going to lose this. People (& especially, sadly, heterosexual more middle class leftish people) still seem to be being silly and naive enough to imagine this misogyny-on-steroids is the new gay rights,
while ignoring a lot of those who were actually fighting for gay rights back in the day. And they don't give a shit about women's rights because a lot of the stuff being talked about, they take for granted & it mainly impacts those far less privileged & sheltered than themselves
And then more and more wtf stuff will happen (the Brits was only the beginning) and the same people will be asking the exact same questions we've been asking them for years now but pretending we didn't as they eventually try to claw all the rights back that they were

We need to go back to the fundamental question of why we had to have single sex spaces in certain circumstances in the first place. And we need to keep pushing it and talking about it, along with the understanding that we're talking about one specific group of males,
who ALL THE EVIDENCE shows are NO DIFFERENT to other males in respect of the reasons we have those spaces, being expanded in terms of numbers & now being given a free pass into them, treated like a sacred caste, AND enabled to punish any women and girls who say no.
Sorry, but any woman supporting this is subjugating herself & throwing other women who are less privileged than herself under the bus. It's utterly pathetic. You're enablers. The equivalent of the anti suffragettes going "Well, I don't need the vote, how very unfeminine of you"

Just to say I am LOVING this going mainstream. And that it's coming from Observer journalist Sonia Sodha too. SO tired of the lazy ignorant and false assumptions (see Peston and others) that this is a 'right wing' issue.
No. It's a humanity & equal rights issue, and the supposedly 'liberal' left have been utterly shameful and hypocritical in trying to minimise the implications of it, and impacts on some of the most genuinely vulnerable people in our society. You don't care about that?
You think it's okay to lock women, who are often victims of abuse themselves, up in prison cells with convicted male rapists because that male's fee-fees are more important than her safety? She's just there as a validation tool, right?
