US administration sources make public via @sz that Llyod Austin had "fierce exchange of words" with head of chancellory @W_Schmidt_ & that Sullivan "read riot act" to Scholz' national security advisor Plötner for putting conditions on Leopard transfer.
sueddeutsche.de/politik/kampfp…
This sounds like a deliberate effort to undercut narrative "Scholz & Biden are fully aligned on support for 🇺🇦" & to make it clear that Biden administration expects Scholz to move on US terms rather than him setting conditions publicly (which surprised Austin on way to Berlin).
Chancellory issues categorical denial of US sourced @sz report on Austin & Sullivan talks with Schmidt & Plötner.
„Reports are inaccurate regarding both tone & substance“, @gebauerspon reports.
"I don't know of such a linking (Leopard & Abrams) and I have no knowledge of any disgruntlement as reported by @sz", new 🇩🇪defense minister Pistorius claims.
Says as "Leopard nation" Germany has special responsibility and will live up to this responsibility. #AnneWill

Takes about Scholz being controlled by Kremlin kompromat & or Scholz hoping to please Putin in order to be first in line when business with 🇷🇺opens up again are multiplying here spread by accounts with lots of (partly serious) followers.
As much it is understandable that one disagrees with Scholz' assessment (I do, too) why fall for these takes? Scholz said why he is acting the way he is acting in taz interview last weekend. He (rightly) says "there's no absolute truth" in making difficult trade-offs about risk. Image
What Scholz has failed to do (not just in this particular case) on Leopard tanks is to clearly communicate his own truth on trade-offs. Relying on statements by unnamed senior officials to media on Abrams-Leopard link without giving reasons just backfires massively. Image

Ever since I saw @Bkerrychina make an appearance in a @BBCStoryworks Huawei ad I thought "Why don't media look into and scandalize BBC selling itself to Chinese party state & its agents"? Glad that at final last @Jake_Kanter @DEADLINE got on the case.
bbc.com/storyworks/fut…
BBC Storyworks explicitly puts BBC credibility on the line by selling itself as "building on our century-long pedigree as world's most trusted storyteller".
Hard to think of more effective way to burn that trust than selling yourself to 🇨🇳 party state.
Per Royal Charter, BBC’s mission is to „act in public interest“ and "to reflect UK, its culture and values to the world“. Providing PR support to CGTN, propaganda agent of totalitarian system & Huawei (part and parcel of surveillance apparatus) is selling out these values.

By the end of this year, according to estimates 59% of 5G RAN in Germany (and 100% in Berlin) will be provided by Huawei.

This is an abysmal failure to protect critical infrastructure, going against key intentions of law Bundestag passed against Merkel’s Huawei open door policy.
A number of Bundestag lawmakers had warned Telekom et al against continuing to rely on Huawei. If government decided to classify RAN components as critical then this may mean that Huawei gear would no longer be allowed and would ultimate have to be replaced, at high cost. If.
But Telekom seems to have concluded that the government won’t act. For Germany to make running of key critical infrastructure dependent on company under heavy (and increasing) US sanctions is outright irresponsible government policy.
