Remembering Dr. #HomiJBhabha - 'The Father of India's Nuclear Program', on his 57th death anniversary.🙏

#Threads 🧵 about
The mystery behind India’s nuclear pioneer’s death ❓️ #Thread 1/n
Had it not been for his historic contributions to India’s nuclear prgm from 40s to 60s, India would not have been nuclear-powered nation as today.
Bhabha was awarded Adams Prize in 42 & PadmaBhushan in 54.
He was nominated for Nobel Prize for Physics in '51 & 53–56.

#Thread 2/n
Nuclear Physics was passion for Bhabha.
- He conducted experiments on particles that released enormous amounts of radiations.
- Jan 1933, Bhabha received his doctorate in Nuclear Phy. & after published first scientific paper, “The Absorption of Cosmic radiation“.

#Thread 3/n
- Bhabha authored several pathbreaking papers which are even today considered guiding lights by nuclear physicists across the world.

- Indian Nuclear program traces its history to establishment of the Atomic Energy Commission in 1948 wid Bhabha as Founding Chair.

#Thread 4/n
- In 65, Bhabha declared on AI Radio that he could make India nuclear power nation within 18 months if given the go-ahead.

- This sent shivers down the spines of world powers. So, within a year, Bhaha is suspected to have been killed by the United States’ CIA.

#Thread 5/n
- He killed when Air India 101 crashed near Mont Blanc on 24 Jan 1966.
- A ‘misunderstanding’ b/w Geneva Airport & pilot about aircraft position near a mountain is cited as the official reason ofthe crash which saw India's brightest nuclear physicist losing his life.

#Thread 6/n
A book titled "Conversations with the Crow" contains an Interview of Gregory Douglas with former CIA Robert Crowley claimed:
- #CIA got rid of Bhabha to paralyse India’s nuclear programme.
- He claims it was a bomb in the cargo of the aircraft which brought it down.
#Thread 7/n
- On July 11, 2008, an alleged conversation b/w journalist Gregory Douglas & CIA officer Robert T. Crowley had been reproduced by a news media organisation called TBRNews.org.

#Thread 8/n
- The CIA officer was quoted as :

“We had trouble, you know, with India back in the 60’s when they got uppity and started work on an atomic bomb…the thing is, they were getting into bed with the Russians.’’

#Thread 9/n
Referring to Homi Bhabha, he said,

- “That one was dangerous, believe me. He had an unfortunate accident. He was flying to Vienna to stir up more trouble when his Boeing 707 had a bomb go off in the cargo hold….’’

#Thread 10/n
The fact that there has been no substantive investigation into the air crash which killed Homi Bhabha is a statement of how the West conspired to derail and paralyse India’s nuclear programme.

#Thread 11/n
Indeed, India suffered a setback with the killing of Homi Bhabha, but the man’s contributions, research, and studies continue to guide India and the world at large to this very day.
On his death anniversary today, it is only fit for India to remember its nuclear hero.🙏

#BREAKING : Indian Space Research Organisation [#ISRO], which already has a network of tracking stations, has completed survey & radiation studies at Fiji Islands for a temporary station being designed specifically for India's first Solar mission (Aditya-L1).

#AtmaNirbharBharat
Fiji Islands is one of the options being explored to support the launch of #Aditya-L1 1, India’s first observatory-class space-based solar mission wherein the spacecraft will be placed in a halo orbit around the first Lagrange point (L1) of the Sun-Earth system.
Accdg to ISRO, a satellite around L1 point has the major advtg of continuously viewing Sun without eclipses as the position provides a advantage of observing solar activities.
- Aditya will carry 7 payloads to observe photosphere, chromosphere & the outermost layers of the Sun.
