Pro Al-Qaeda jihadist ideologue Abu Dhar al-Burmi released a 20 minute video message "Response To The False Testimony of The Ulema In East Turkestan" criticising the Islamic scholars from UAE-based The World Muslim Communities Council for their visit to Xinjiang, China.
In the msg, al-Burmi harshly criticises China & accuses it of corrupting Islamic scholars while also comparing East Turkestan with Al-Andalus. He accuses China of serious violations of rights of Uyghur Muslims. He also acknowledges the stance on Uyghur issue by Western countries.
al-Burmi has strong connections in Pakistan (where he's believed to be based) & he's of Rohingya Burmese descent. He says he used to be an Islamic school teacher in Karachi. His students included several TTP jihadis including Ahmad Mehsud, cousin of Hakimullah Mehsud.
al-Burmi also maintained strong ties with Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU) in the Afghanistan-Pakistan region and he can also speak Uzbek, besides Arabic and Urdu. Besides having ties with Pakistani jihadis, he has also maintained ties with jihadis in Afghanistan.
According to professor Jacob Zenn, al-Burmi first entered the jihadist scene in Pakistan as a replacement of Qari Zafar, who was the head of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi and died in a U.S. drone strike in Waziristan in 2010. cacianalyst.org/publications/a…
“Although Abu Zar never precisely filled Qari Zafar’s shoes in LeJ, he did become the IMU’s leading mufti and featured prominently in IMU, Pakistani-Taliban and the Uighur-led Turkistan Islamic Party (TIP) videos and traveled throughout Pakistan giving sermons to tribal members.”
al-Burmi continued to have ties with IMU after the group pledged allegiance to Islamic State in 2015, which landed him on the bad side of Al-Qaeda and Taliban. He later resurfaced in 2016, getting featured in Turkestan Islamic Party's videos, where he denounced IS.
His denouncement of IS was accepted by Taliban and al-Qaeda and the latter even featured his apology for briefly pledging allegiance to IS in its AQAP newsletter.
al-Burmi also maintains ties with jihadis in Myanmar and strongly sympathises with the Rohingyas.
In recent years, al-Burmi has been heavily targeting China and has been a source of 'awareness' on the topic for the jihadists in Pakistan-Afghanistan region. He sees China as an enemy of Islam and Muslims at par with U.S. and Russia. He's a critic of Pakistan-China friendship.
In past, he has compared Chinese economic activities in Pakistan with British East India Company. He has also targeted Pakistan-China deal for Gwadar Port and called on Pakistani jihadis to attack Chinese interests in Pakistan. Today, he's one of the leading anti-China jihadis.
ISKP-linked al-Azaim Media released issue # 17 of its Khurasan Ghag magazine. The latest issue targets Afghan Taliban (as usual) as well as Taliban's ties with foreign states especially Iran, U.S., China, Russia. It also specifically targets the United Nations.
It goes on to target China & its ties with Afghan Taliban and also praises the ISKP team of two attackers who targeted Chinese Hotel in Kabul. The magazine also carries a separate article on East Turkestan and the plight of Uyghur Muslims & "crimes of Communist China".
The magazine also carries commentary on UN's close ties with Afghan Taliban while specifically targeting the UN. It also carries the recent photo of UN employees posing in front of a Taliban flag in Kabul. It also targets Taliban ties with NGOs like Afghan Red Crescent Society.
This week a local leader of Hizb ut-Tahrir gave a provocative speech against United Nations in Takhar, Afghanistan. He said that UN is a tool to perpetuate power of colonial states and Muslims should chant "Death to UN" just like they do for U.S.
"The United Nations, or the mother organization of international institutions raised in the West, is an institution whose pillars and principles are built on the basis of Western secular ideology and values."
He said:
"The UN has been established by WWII winners, serving as the bridge of communications and spokesperson of powers such as the U.S., the organization's main goal is to preserve great Western powers. The existence of this organization has no benefit to Islamic lands."
