#WxmAFC proved the #NationalLeague has plenty of quality in their 3-3 draw with #SUFC

They did plenty of things really well in the game - here’s a thread 🧵 looking at what they did. A short analysis 👇
Here’s a move they executed early in the 2nd half. They did a really good job of restricting the game to one half off the pitch

Down the left they were especially potent as it’s where Elliot Lee was most active
They look to use the channels, something Sheff Utd had real trouble defending

The threat of Tozer’s set pieces put SU on edge when defending, making it easier for Wrexham to play their game in these lateral zones
The Blades didn’t help themselves with their poor pitch coverage, but credit must go to Parkinson for exploiting this

They hit this wide channel and win a throw, which ultimately leads to a goal
They win the throw down this left channel, and these long throws are so hard to defend

Not only is the delivery flat and consistent, but the nature of the set pieces gives a massive advantage to Wrexham
Another thing I wanted to highlight was how Wrexham’s shape changed once they picked up their injuries

The main change was Young entering the 6 role. Normally I prefer him as an 8, but his energy put SU on the back foot
Here’s the shape they traditionally hold. Young is usually to the right of the 3, but takes up the space that TOC usually occupies, maintaining their usual structure
However due to his pressing instincts and energy Young drives forwards, pressuring the ball and inverting the shape

SU couldn’t have prepared for Young in the 6, and this undoubtedly put them on the back foot. They can’t match his energy
Wrexham pinned SU back for the majority of the half. As I mentioned earlier, their best work came down the left, where Lee was able to roam

The threat of his in swinging crosses pins men back. Tbf SU don’t help themselves at all
Even in the first half Wrexham did a lot of good work, again using just one lateral zone rather than playing across the whole pitch

They also broke the lines with ease. They judged the space brilliantly and were able to hit forwards first time
The direct play was especially effective because Mullin was having an excellent game

He managed to isolate himself 1 on 1 with defenders, which made for extremely effective play
The front 2 deserve a lot of credit. They won every battle, got the right side of every ball and worked extremely hard

They were crucial for the game. They made everything tick, and deserve so much credit

Last weekend, Joselu played in the Champions League final, ending on the winning side

8 years ago he played in another final; the Development League Cup final

Both sides are packed with interesting players; but the question is, where are they now? 🤔

[THREAD] 🧵 Image
Dale Eve
Age: 29
Position(s): GK
Nation: England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
Club: Walsall Wood

We start off in non league, with Walsall Wood stopper Eve

He’s also a Bermudan international, and has had 18 clubs in his career so far Image
Phil Bardsley
Age: 38
Position(s): RB
Nation: England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿
Club: Retired

Barnsley was still playing in 2023, at Stockport, but he announced 12 months ago that he would retire

At this point he was already a PL regular; where he would spend the vast majority of his extensive career Image

They’ve signed players from 1, 2 & 3 leagues below

Brought players in from the 2nd tier of Denmark & USA

Everyone had them tipped to finish bottom

Yet Crawley Town are now on the cusp of the playoffs

Here is the story of arguably the best recruitment in League 2

[THREAD] 🧵 Image
Rome wasn’t built in a day. A playoff achieving squad isn’t built overnight.

It takes several windows at this level to get it right

As a result we will be going through the last 2 seasons to see how Crawley have crafted this squad Image
Corey Addai
Age: 26
Position(s): GK
Signed From: Esbjerg

We start with a sensational piece of scouting. Addai was signed from the Danish 2nd tier

Statistically he’s been absolutely superb this season. They have themselves a top goalkeeper Image

🧵DANIEL CROWLEY - #Notts

Luke Williams’ latest recruit is attacking midfielder Crowley

He’s especially interesting as he’s spent much of his career in the Netherlands

Here is a thread on the new man, and what we can expect from him 👇 Image
The Key Stats

Age: 25
Height: 5ft9
Last Club: Morecambe
Position: AM (as shown in graphic)

22/23 (League One):
Games: 21
Goals: 2
Assists: 5
1.25 Chances Created per 90
671 passes completed (87% accuracy)
8 tackles won (73% accuracy) Image
The first thing that catches the eye about Crowley is the speed and quickness of his movement. In particular, how quickly he’s able to manipulate the ball by shifting his feet

Here he completely takes the defender out of the game, opening the space for a perfectly weighted pass

🧵When Cole Stockton (@cstockton94) signed for #BAFC I expected the reaction to be overwhelmingly positive

It was in fact mixed, which surprised me

So here is a thread showing why I believe Burton fans should be optimistic about their new signing 👇 Image
Firstly, he is a player capable of the spectacular. He’s able to grab the game and win points single handedly with moments like this

7 of his 11 goals came in his final 4 games; he almost single handedly kept Morecambe up
Stockton is a big forward, over 6ft. But his improvisation is always so impressive, especially when it involves acrobatics

Here he reacts so quickly, capitalising on an opportunity with a spectacular finish

🧵🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 England play against North Macedonia tonight. England aren’t adverse to former Non-League players, with Mings in the current squad potentially playing tonight

So here is an XI of players in Non-League who I feel could one day pull on the famous 3 Lions Shirt 👇 Image
Owen Foster

Scunthorpe’s 18 year old keeper Foster had a brilliant stint when called upon last season, so much so that he is now going on trial at several Championship clubs

A brilliant shot stopper, Foster has massive potential. Needs the right development Image
Kellen Fisher

Okay, so Fisher isn’t technically a NL player anymore BUT he only just moved to Norwich, so I’m counting him here

That move says it all for him really - he has genuine potential to be a top right back. He’s already mature beyond his years at 18 Image

🧵Sensible Transfers: #swfc

Promoted side Sheffield Wednesday were requested yday afternoon. So here are 5 players they could look at based on YOUR suggestions

Remember to comment your team + 5 positions below 👇 Image
GK: Josh Vickers

Wednesday rotated their keepers last season, so you’d expect them to need to add another safe pair of hands

Vickers is exactly that. He’s based fairly locally, so geography works, and he’s shown over a number of years he’s a very capable keeper Image
CB: Lloyd Jones

A defender I’d like to see make the step up with Wednesday is Jones. He’s been brilliant for Cambridge for a number of years, and is now available on a free

A strong defender, one in his prime at 27, Jones is capable on the ball & would be a cost effective move Image
