The #GOP via #FoxNews & other means, is trying to equate teaching kids not to hate each other because of their skin color with teaching kids that being white is bad. This is what they are calling #CriticalRaceTheory. Really?
#CriticalRaceTheory is a scholarly field that studies how racism affects society. It is not a “blame the whites” movement & it isn’t being taught to children, even secondarily. Anything you heard to the contrary is a lie.
“They’re teaching our kids CRT” is part of the same lie as “white genocide” & “reverse racism” — an excuse for people uncomfortable with the topic of race to claim racism no longer exists, & to manipulate our history to keep people ignorant.
All books were removed from Florida public schools, so the GOP regime there can assure that history there is rewritten to suit their racist agenda. They promote ignorance so they next generation can be “comfortable” instead of informed.
Nor is the history the only target. Science must also be “rewritten” to match the GOP agenda. They must keep people ignorant of both because ignorance keeps the masses from recognizing lies when they hear them.
Ignorance also keeps people angry about nonexistent problems so that they don’t ask inconvenient questions like “Why do people work harder just to make the wealthy richer?” & “Why do people vote for politicians who continually act against those same people’s best interests?”
The GOP wants people divided over color & language & religion so they will fight each other over these trivialities, never realizing that they are ALL United in that they are being made into serfs who get less freedom while the wealthy get more control.
The Republican Party was once a party of moderation. Today, the moderates have been driven away as RINOs, leaving the GOP steered only by a radical fringe of people who hate your freedom & opportunity and love only their power & money.
I’m a middle class white born in 1954 to a poor family. I remember when making that sort of change was what America was all about. It was back when ideas like honor, charity, love, education & helping your neighbor were seen as virtues instead of vices.
America was founded on the principle that the only way to ensure our own freedom was to help each other. If we fail that, we fail as Americans. The GOP of today wants us to fail. In fact, they think it is the only way for them to succeed.
We don’t have to put up with this. The liars & haters are a tiny minority. But every time we believe the lies & are tricked into hating, we make it easier for them to take more from us.
But this isn’t between two political parties any more, if it ever was. All political parties lie, but not all people do. We have to deal with a flawed system in that we tend to have to vote for those who lie less. (It’s still a better system than most, though.)
In our system, we have to choose who we believe, then watch them so they do what we need them to do. I don’t believe what people say, but I do watch what they do. That leaves a pretty clear choice right now.
The GOP tells us everything we want to hear, but never actually does anything to help us. Instead, they lie to divide us, so arrogant now that they don’t even pretend they need voters.
The Dems know they must still serve the interests of people to retain power. This isn’t a party that thinks it can steal elections. They have to move things along to survive, especially when everything the other side has done was designed to cripple our right to choose.
Who do you trust more: people who keep you weak by denying economic opportunity & lifesaving health care, while keeping you too busy fighting each other to notice, or the people who believe that their power depends on sharing some of it with you?
The GOP believes winning requires everyone else to lose. That’s not freedom, that’s fascism. The rational person will support those who at the very least know the only way to make anything better is to make it better for everyone. (End thread)
Here’s a unique take on the standard 3d print dungeon! Dynamod has created a simple & flexible system that is easy to assemble on the fly! It plugs together fast & provides just the right amount of texture without getting in the way! (1 of x) dynamod.games
This is slick. The base trays go together magnetically, the swappable floor tiles just drop in, and the walls and openable doors plug in from the top with no magnets or clips required! Pretty without being a pain in the posterior to put together!

You can buy starter sets already 3d printed and assembled - ready for play…
I’ve been talking about this a long time before finding this #Buckyquote yesterday. With our existing technology, a fraction of our cumulative available man-hours could feed, clothe and house the entire world in conditions our ancestors would have called luxurious. #RainingSoup
Robert Heinlein was fond of saying “It’s raining soup! Grab a bucket!” We live in a world of plenty… but buckets are being issued to only a few. Everyone else can only catch the drops in their mouths. Now the bucket holders want to ban most of us from looking up. (2
The only thing keeping us from living in a veritable paradise is greed. Having enough for all is not sufficient. Some people aren’t happy unless they have far more than everyone else. They would rather see the soup fall on the ground than let someone else have any. (3
I keep seeing Kickstarters trying to promote sets of metal fantasy coinage for RPGs. They all look pretty… and they all cost SO much more than using real local (in my case) coinage instead. What am I missing? (Thread)
I am NOT throwing shade at the people making these. They are always sincere folks offering pretty stuff at the best prices possible - but it is NOT possible to undercut the US Mint. Most (probably all) national coinage costs much more to create than the face value.
If it entirely tosses you out of your role-playing to use modern national coinage, OK… but consider. Is “generic” gold, silver & copper coinage so VERY much better that you want to spend so much more to obtain it? If the answer is “yes”, go for it.
It is a revelation to discover how many of the ”checks and balances” of the American political system depend solely on the good will and sense of fairness of our officials. We see now that a determined group with no moral compass can completely paralyze our way of life...
... and yet, despite this huge vulnerability, hasn’t our nation more or less functioned for a long time? Well, no. It has NEVER functioned reliably for anyone but straight white males (and let's them down, too if they are low-income).
What it came down to is that the greedy ones with no personal honor finally came for a good chunk of the rest of us — so now we notice there’s no real protection against those who don’t deign to obey the unspoken agreements between white men.
@FredKiesche@garethlpowell I’ve been trying to hammer Gareth’s point #2 into people’s heads for year's. People say ”the US can't feed the world”, but in point of fact we COULD. We just don’t have the will to do so. Hell, we could feed the world on the perfectly good food we throw away!
@FredKiesche@garethlpowell Modern agriculture is so good we have to pay people NOT to grow food. This isn’t to benefit the individual family farm. It is meant to assure the huge corporate farms make insane profits by creating artificial shortages.
@FredKiesche@garethlpowell Hunger is engineered to make the wealthy wealthier. Homelessness is engineered as well. Modern materials & construction techniques could cheaply house all of the homeless. But antiquated building codes are designed to keep these techniques from being used.
A coalition of left and center Democrats (Once known as center and right Democrats when I was younger...) made this happen. The Left now needs to hold the Dems feet to the fire. Health care reform now. Black lives matter. Immigration reform now.
Immediate and decisive action against the Covid-19 pandemic. Stop the spread of armed white supremacy lawlessness. Make police protectors again instead of armed thugs. Disband ICE. Reform the courts.
For God’s sake, address the core problem of consolidation of all wealth in the hands of a tiny, tiny few. Pay workers what they are worth! Tax the ultra-wealthy. Address the economic suppression of non-whites and women.
