First time properly using twitter, wanted to write about something to the vast void of the internet.

1/? (Is this how you do threads?)
When I was 8, I was in and out of hospitals for weeks / months. I had some mass in my stomach that doctors couldn't figure out what it was.
2/?
I was in and out of the hospital for weeks at a time, doctor couldn't figure out what it was from all the scans / tests they ran on me. During these weeks of substantial pain (enough that I still vividly remember to this day). They decided to do a biopsy.
3/?
One thing I remember was how the doctors acted, they weren't enthusiastic when helping / talking to me or my parents. (This is important for the final point of this thread)

I went into the biopsy with hopes that it would help figure things out.
4/?
I remember being on the bed while the anesthesia was putting me to sleep. There were these colorful fiber optic cables that I could fidget with from the anxiety. Think RGB horse hair, endless entertainment for an 8 year old.
5/?
That's the last thing I remember, before waking up back in my hospital bed, with a massive clear gauze over my belly button. With massive amounts of puss going out, and even more pain.

Me, and 8 year old kid fell asleep and woke up with indescribable pain.
6/?
This resulted in no doctor in the entirety of the United States wanting to help me, out of fear of a malpractice lawsuit.

The short of it is; there was a mistake done in sanitizing the equipment properly. Resulting in a serious infection.
7/?
What did my family do as a result of this?
Flew me to Brazil where doctors are generally very engaged in their work, and very often go the extra mile for patients.

After a long excruciating flight from Houston to Rio. I made it to the hospital there.
8/?
After arriving, the nurse that brought me to my room did something I won't ever forget. As I was being wheeled, when we got to the elevator. He went and brought me a blanket without asking, after thanking him he said "I'm just doing what I wish others would do for me"
9/?
That single sentence has been a guiding memory for me, that was pure kindness. Whoever you are, thank you.

After a few days of being in the hospital in Rio, where doctors weren't in fear of a system that so heavily penalizes mistakes. I was given a clean bill of health/
10/?
The point of this thread being, when you and others around you have a passion for what you do. You will do a better job, and this should be focused on in the medical community. Especially in places like Asia, where doctors become doctors for the sake of being a doctor.
Final:
I'm sharing this in hopes you take away a single thing. Take pride in the work you do, be it serving fast food, or working in a bleeding edge field.
It shows, people notice. Be proud of who you are and where you are. No matter where that is, always.

@RealDoctorMike This is not entirely medical, but I want to thank you for being so passionate for your job and your quest to inform others. I do hope you read this :).
Did I do this twitter thread thing right? Please tell me if I did, I have no clue how this works it's tragic.
