#TheEducationOfMissJoon Day 1 Notes :

1st, I'd like to apologize for thinking this was gonna be a simple cinematic experience that I'd so blithely undertake instead of the viscerally emotional endeavor I can already see it's going to be.

I consider myself educated & not the least bit naïve but I am ONE episode into the #1619Project & already realizing how wrong I was @ how much I knew. As a product of public education & after only ONE episode, I have a greater understanding of the abject failure my education was.

We have been duped! A concerted effort has been made to keep us ignorant. I get how most ⬜s feel blindsided by these discoveries. It's CLEAR suppressing history is NOT a new tactic of ⬜ supremacists. We have been lied to for CENTURIES.

Regardless, now that we have these brave ⚫🇺🇲 sharing their truths with US, I/we can no longer blame our ancestors for keeping these truths from US. We deserve to know the Truth & Black Americans deserve to tell their stories.
My advice: DO NOT FUCK THIS UP. JUST LISTEN.

I do not believe I may do this project justice simply by sharing my thoughts about it, so I URGENTLY recommend EVERYONE watch it for themselves because I GUARANTEE you (⬜🇺🇲) will learn something no one ever taught you & likely went out of their way to hide from you.

Interesting historical tidbits such as :

•Slavery was an issue in the REVOLUTIONARY WAR. Slaves fought for their freedom in 1775
•Lincoln — a well tempered raging asshole
•Slaves helped 🇺🇲 win BOTH wars fought on US soil
•Nazis took cues FROM US to devise the Holocaust

•The Black Americans who fought & won during Reconstruction Era & then in the Jim Crow era & then in the Civil Rights era are the bravest, & most admirable Americans of any color, this world had ever seen.
*Cue #BlackLivesMatter
I am gobsmacked how resilient ⚫🇺🇲 is.

•The 13/14/15 Amendments were treated with unfettered disdain in the south & after the war ended, nobody in Washington gave a damn. *Lynching*
•The fact the CRA was designed to need to be reauthorized leads me to believe the 🇺🇲 was never serious about Civil Rights to begin.

Just like RvW, these legislative ghost victories were only meant to placate the public while in the background, the ⬜ patriarchy has been working overtime to figure out how to reverse every concession ever made to marginalized populations.

I was foolish to think I could just breeze through #1619Project. My hubris got the better of me because I THOUGHT I was educated. I spent over half my life in school; K-12, an AA/BA/MA in college & in ONE episode, I learned more about ⚫ History than was ever taught to me before.

Don't take my word for it, please watch this series for yourself.
As for my part, I'm gonna treat this journey like a marathon instead of a sprint because the topic is heavy & more than valuable of my effort & time.
