Skanda/Kandan worship was once prevalent across geographies but now mostly restricted to southern India, Malaysia etc. Let's see some ancient skanda iconography.
1. Khmer Kandan - 7th CE- Kdei Ang Temple, Kampuchea
2. Skanda - 2nd CE - Gandhara, Afghanistan
3. Skanda - coin of Yaudheya - 1st CE - Punjab
4. Karthikeya - Gupta Period - 5th CE
5. Skanda - Kannuaj - medieval
6. Skanda - 9th CE - Central India
7. Karthikeya - 9th or 10th CE - Central India
Can someone enlighten why skanda worship became less popular in North and Central India despite it being prevalent in ancient time? @tskrishnan sir.

Massive 6 ft Shivalingam unearthed at Arasampalayam in Karur dt, TN near the sangam of Amaravathy & Kudakunaaru rivers. Happened on Diwali day. 1. Looks completely devoid of Shaivaite symbols. No Vibhooti/Thiruneeru on anyone's forehead.Cholas were stauch Shaivaites.. removing such symbols is a grave injustice.Remember Raja Raja called himself 'Sivapatha Sekaran' 1/n
2. Cholas were pioneers in engineering, spiritually, art, literature, democratic civic system, Navy. Yet, the teaser portrays them as some barbaric warlords
3. Chola's Shiva Bhakti is world renowned. Not an iota of this very important dimension is shown in the movie

Born at Uthamadhanapuram near Kumbakonam, he collected over 3000 paper manuscripts, palm leaf manuscripts and other records which were lying for centuries in lofts, store rooms, cupboards by visiting all along the length and breadth of TN.
