🧵There is much speculation about what prompted Putin to launch his genocidal war against 🇺🇦. I'll try to explain this with the help of Timothy Snyder's book "The Road to unfreedom".Putin's mindset is important for this. It's shaped by ru philosophers.
Thread today: Ivan Ilyin

One person who is recited by Putin in many speeches and who has great influence on him is the philosopher Ivan Ilyin (1883-1954). His body was transferred to Moscow in 2005 with the support of Putin. Putin also attended his funeral.

Who was Ilyin?He was born in Moscow in 1883 and dealt extensively with the works of Hegel.From these he derived his works,the content of which can be described as"Christian fascism".

After the Soviets came to power,he went to exile in 🇨🇭,later after Hitler came to power in Berlin. In 1953 he died in Switzerland.

Ilyin's theses and statements on world events:
1. On fascism:
- "The Ru White movement (a product of the civil war in Ru) is more profound and comprehensive than Italian fascism."
-The depth and complexity stem from a specific meaning of Christianity.

A Christianity that demands blood sacrifices from the enemies of God.
- "Hitler did all of Europe a great service in preventing another revolution like in Ru".
- "It is a fact that fascism is a redemptive process of patriotic despotism."

- True passion is fascist violence, the raised sword is also a prayer.

2. About the West:
-The decadent West burdened the innocent Ru with communism. Ru would one day liberate itself and the world through Christian fascism.

-Existence of the West as a constant threat to the Immaculate Body of Russia.

3. On Democracy:
- Free elections equal to the possibility of an embryo choosing its species.
- "The irresponsible human atom is the principle of democracy.

Individuality must be overcome by political habits that arouse the collective love of Russians for their Redeemer"

4. About God:
-God's paradise and its totality has been destroyed by reality and human passion.
-God means the uninterrupted struggle "against his enemies on 🌏

-"Whoever opposes the fight against the devil is himself the devil".
-Russia is the only source of divine totality.
-God's innocence is manifested in war against enemies.

5. On factuality:
-"The world of empirical existence cannot be justified theologically".

6. About the individual:
-"Evil begins where the individual begins". -Individuality is corrupt, only the totality of God matters.

-Wars are justified when the spiritual achievements of the nation are threatened, which is always the case until individualism is completely destroyed.

7. On "Russian innocence":
-Redemption requires that ru be perceived differently than it appears.

Ru as an untouched, undefiled body. Chosen to be his vision of God's kingdom on earth.

8. On the nation:
-Nation as "animated organism".
-"Otherwise it is not possible to decide who belongs to this group. A cell cannot decide whether it belongs to the body."

-The ru culture automatically produces a "brotherly unity".
-He wrote about Ukrainians in quotation marks. Denied them existence outside of the ru organism.
-For Ilyin, Ru is not part of historicity but eternity.
-Ru in a steady cycle of threat and defense.

-Every war of Russia as an act of self-defense.
-Ru does nothing wrong, ru can only be wronged.

9. About the "saviour" of Russia:
-Ru needs a savior who will make the sacrifice of shedding the blood of others to gain power. This saviour comes from fiction.
- Fascist coup as an act of salvation.

- "We will get our freedom and our laws from our Russian patriot who will bring salvation to Russia".
-This is "the body of Russia". The Redeemer has the duty to wage wars and the right to choose against whom.
-Citizens as as a tool of the Redeemer and a serving mass. One body.
