#MyBeautifulWorld

I will always love Mt St Michel. Tonight I will attend Catholic Vespers/Evensong here.
The tour has now closed. The daily Vespers service sung by Monks and Nuns from the order of Jerusalem here is one of the little known gems of this wonderful land ancient place of spirit and Majesty.

These two pictures are from my first Vespers here. In Winter the service is held in this little under ground chapel. In Summer they are held in the church you can see on the right.
This final video - also from my first visit- shows the path down into the chapel - which has beautiful acoustics.
This panorama shows the Church at the top after tonight’s service.
And these three images show the view from where I’m standing on the high ramparts sending this tweet thread, using the excellent 5G data here.

Why exactly is it @LaurenBinDC that your primary concern about the recent religious crisis in Ethiopia relates to the alleged presence of Fano there. What evidence do you have of this apart from (apparently) a tweet from @wdavison10
An alleged journalist who blocks fellow journalists.

This is a very far from encouraging report. There is one positive statement though on church security - which is the most impt immediate issue. 1/2 addisstandard.com/news-joint-sec…
“[the joint intelligence task force] also stated that the joint task force will continue to “strengthen the security protection for the religious fathers and the followers of the faith”.

This is the first and most important step towards ending this crisis.
Follow up report following the Holy Synod news briefing. Also far from encouraging.

The two parties Govt. And Synod need to start talking, and be seen to be doing so. All this tension needs a release valve. addisstandard.com/news-govt-orth…

Interesting report here, with a Somali perspective on the rapidly metastasising Somaliland secessionist movement. My understanding is that SNM was a Mengistu era response to the US cold-war efforts to remove his Govt using TPLF and ELF (Eritrea) and Somali forces.
.@CrisisGroup has a large team in Nairobi focussed on Somalia and the wider area. But hasn’t published anything on the situation since November 2022, missing a large number of important developments in an area which is becoming increasingly dangerous. crisisgroup.org/africa/horn-af…
The elephant in the room is the role played in these events by Nairobi based SAHAN Research and Matthew Bryden aka @Dibjir who arrived in the Region in 1991 (as the Cold War ended) as a young man after completing military training in Canada.

This looks pretty dreadful for Northland, Auckland and the East Coast of the North Island.
But possibly good for surfers. Image

It is possible to turn the feature off on your own device. But a quick google search on the issue doesn't show any way for a user to prevent translation of their own tweets. ccm.net/apps-sites/soc…
Which means that - unless @AbrhamAlehegn2 has some special buttons available to politicians who have just resigned - this was most probably done by twitter.

Question is - who asked them to do this? And why?

TLDR Thread Version.... the heart of things.

“Abiy faces a classic dilemma. Whether to lose support of the Church or Oromo separatists who support the Splinter group. 1/4
Abiy needs to consider whether it is possible to end this crisis without choosing.

If he concludes that he can’t, and accepts he will either lose the Church or at best seriously weaken his Oromo base - then the answer is simple.
Losing his Oromo base may weaken him politically but it will not result in him losing his premiership with all the possible ramifications that follow.
