[1] This thread is an update on the 8th day after the #earthquake Feb 13, 2023:
The earthquake in NW Syria has resulted in 4,427 deaths and 12,400 injuries. Number of destroyed buildings: 1,700. Partially damaged: 6,300. 280,000 people affected. Image
[2]1,414 deaths & 2,349 injuries in regime-held areas, and 18,500 families displaced.
While in NW 11,000 families have lost their homes and 30,000 displacement movements recorded by the UN
[3] 40% of schools in NW out of service, with 39 used as shelters. 17,000 children without schools. Resuming on Feb 18th. 678 schools damaged in regime areas, 126 used as shelters.
58 UN aid trucks in the past 5 days, while 75 aid trucks arrived today from NE local organizations.
[4] Under-Secretary-General welcomes Assad's permission for UN aid to use additional 2 crossing points. UNSC was supposed to move to authorize UN agencies to do so, while legal experts signed a letter on the legality of cross border aid without authorization from Assad nor UNSC Image
[5] 21 countries have sent aid shipments by air, 95 aircraft arrived including 8 rescue teams & 3 medical teams. World Health Organization delivered today 37-ton shipment, enough for 400,000 medical treatments & 65,000 trauma procedures.

The latest update from the UN reports over 2,000 deaths, 5,000 wounded, and 11,000 homeless families in northwestern Syria. 2,000 buildings were demolished and over 5,100 damaged
[2] Civil defense teams are still working, but the hope of finding survivors under the rubble is diminishing. Nothing can express our gratitude to these heroes. An Egyptian volunteer team of rescue and medical personnel has entered with the help of the (IHH).
[3] Teams from Syrian organizations outside Turkey are starting to arrive to support local teams. For example doctors from SAMS started arriving from the US. Permits for teams to cross the borders usually take at least 15 days from Turkey, hope they will figure quicker mechanism

[1] A thread on the current situation in #İdlib and northern #Hama. The amount of human suffering caused by forced displacement and deliberate targeting of civilians, healthcare facilities, and water resources is, even in the Syrian context, an extreme beyond the extremes.
[2] Almost 600 K were displaced over the last 3 months. This is the biggest and most acute displacement since 2011. to put it into context, this is more than 5 doubles the displacement during last year offensive on #daraa , #Ghouta and the whole southern region.
[3]the majority people currently being displaced already had been displaced multiple times from other parts of #Syria. Those refused the option of returning to GOS areas before and still do, due to concerns on their safety, those need a final destination, not temporary shelter.
