Infectie gedetecteerd via zelftest?
Opnieuw niets zeggen zonder kennis of data. Engel doet hier wederom alsof alleen 1 studie in NL is uitgevoerd.
#stopwillemengel

Long COVID lung damage linked to immune system response
Inhibiting a protein associated with chronic inflammation improves lung health in mice with COVID-19. The signal is not virus-specific, but general inflammation type-1 response; IFNg.
IFNg is an important cytokine, secreted upon infection with intracellular pathogens (viruses (all), intracellular bacteria (e.g. mycoplasma) and parasites (e.g. toxoplasma and plasmodium). t is secreted by CD8 T cells and Th1 (CD4 subset) T cells and NK cells. It acts

Postacute Sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 Infection in the Pre-Delta, Delta, and Omicron Eras
Watch out: same non-representative veteran cohort. But the trend, not the values, will probably align with the general population; #LongCovid prevalance is reducing.
Health records of the Department of Veterans Affairs to build a study population of 441,583 veterans with SARS-CoV-2 infection between March 1, 2020, and January 31, 2022, and 4,748,504 noninfected contemporaneous controls. Controls seem to change from paper to paper.
2/3
Reporting of symptoms in this cohort (60+, men, not in good health) was half in vaccinated subjects, and declining in both non-vaccinated and vaccinated cohorts. This is a combinantion of less incidence and resolving of symptoms.
Some on social media platforms think it is controversial to claim influenza are the more dangerous viruses for humans when compared to SARS-COV-2.
It is not much of a contest. Let me try to explain why.
1/10
It is an unfair comparison. SARS-COV-2 is one virus, that can generate variants under selection pressure, especially to escape neutralisation from antibodies partly.
Influenza are many virus strains that can be biologically and immunologically more distinct.
2/10
SARS-COV-2, and endemic human coronaviruses, OC43, NL63, HKU1, and 229E, relies on Spike. Large enough to accommodate mutations to escape some neutralisation. Recombination can take place but seems rare between HCoVs. It does not escape immunity.
3/10
Immune system activation, function, memory formation, maturation, etc, are very solid scientifically established facts. We owe our lives, multiple times over, to our immune system.
A concerning trend regarding science in the 21st century: immunity is frequeny denied!
1/10
There are two, semingly oposing groups who deny immunity.
The first are the well-known antivax movements. Activation of immune processes is conflated with something artificial and dangerous, of no benefit. Vaccination is actually similar, but safer, as infection using
2/10
the power of your own immune system and dedicated immune cells. The difference is hard to spot or measure. Yet, its powerful and evidence-based effects are denied vigorously. Attempts to explain are countered with "no, you are wrong" and no or made up arguments.
3/10
Differential decline of SARS-CoV-2-specific antibody levels, innate and adaptive immune cells, and shift of Th1/inflammatory to Th2 serum cytokine levels long after first COVID-19
A lot of misunderstanding + the usual crowd claiming "proof of scary"
When will non-scientists understand that one paper is insufficient evidence, one paper does not just wipe clean knowledge and 100s of other papers, and cherry-picking is pseudoscience? Let's not even start with the over- and misinterpretation!
2/10
The authors assessed blood, cells and serum, 10 weeks and 10 months after infection, no vaccination (2020), n=132 vs n=98 non-infected.
What is expected? The infection is over, parameters are going back to background levels, antibody levels reduce a bit. What did they find?
3/10
Again a retrospective cohort study, using electronic healthcare records. Don´t use this as incidence evidence.
The answer is not easy; there are complex association patterns between baseline factors and various LongCovid conditions, with disease severity an association. 2/4
Baseline comorbidities (e.g., cancer and cirrhosis) are likely associated with increased risk of developing LongCovid. The predictability of different LongCovid symptoms varies, reasonable for dementia, malnutrition, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, 3/4
