☝️ @TonyRomm +editor construct a frame that the Republican hostage-taking of the US economy is a responsible and legitimate strategy.
“Urgency for a deal” when Republicans are not acting in good faith or consistency.
Next Tony emphasizes the frame that the deficit is “bothsides” Image
Tony parrots GOP disinformation “two years of Dem control”. Is this true @TonyRomm ? If yes let us know you think so. If not why be a stenographer?

Oh and it’s most legitimate economists warning - not only the Biden administration.
We now see Tony accept the premise that “fiscal austerity” is GOP concern.
This is a lie. The GOP has slashed taxes on wealthy Americans/corporations for decades.

Tony do tax policies impact the deficit? How did Republicans add to the deficit? How much in 4 yrs? Image
Now we see the hostage- taking described. So is this truly “bothsides”. Sure similar to “Hostage-taker” and “hostage”.

Here’s context impt REPUBLICANS did similar before and it was bad but only to Dem Presidents. So this intermittent #DebtCeiling fight is premised on a lie! Image
Now WaPo @TonyRomm are stenographers of GOP disinformation printed for eternity.

Tony is this a true statement by @SpeakerMcCarthy ?

How does this inform readers?

Wow this seems like it could have been an A1 piece @SallyBuzbee !

“Democrats governance reduces deficit” would be a striking headline. But unlikely because Fred Ryan might have a conniption though! #WhatWouldFredSay

@RonaldKlain @harrisonjaime Image
Oh @TonyRomm incase you forgot NO republicans voted for the Inflation Reduction act that also lowered the #deficit

You could have framed that as important as opposed to @JoeBiden signing as the relevant detail. Image
Would be helpful Tony to write that Republicans have a terrible track record on the deficit. Why not mention how Republican taxation policies have contributed?
NB: It is time to alert America the GOP that attacks our democracy &fellow Americans - is willing to trigger a default. Image
Public service announcement. Instead of subsidizing Fred Ryan’s agenda think and act locally.

A 🧵The @nytimes is failing democracy & being run as a Trump/GOP protection racket. Editorial #FrontPage CURATION shapes narrative. What is - and isn’t prioritized - reflects opinion & bias.

Given the breadth of PUBLIC information about corruption and impropriety this is long overdue.

Thank you @propublica for doing journalism. NYT is bitter and jealous about you receiving the Pulitzer for your heroic work.

NYT is vanishing SCOTUS corruption.

2/ Image
@propublica .@AOC introduces substantial articles of impeachment.
NYT does not deem a New York Congressperson taking such a drastic measure #FrontPage worthy.
Is @nycscribe deciding whether such articles receiving a vote in a GOP-led House make it newsworthy?

Epic media failures of omission: not showing Americans clips of Trump’s demented speeches.

#TrumpIsUnfit to be POTUS but instead of *showing* this reality, newsroom leaders deceive Americans by CHOOSING not to.

#TrumpIsUnfit but corporate media refuses to say so. This enables and licenses Trump.

@PostGuild @NYTimesGuild have you any say in the newsroom? Is this the Fourth Estate?

ALERT: #FraudulentEuphemism
Editors’ language choices have tremendous impact on Americans understanding of our world.

Today WaPo normalizes dictatorship & makes destruction of American democracy sound sexy with: “muscular Oval Office”

@ruthbenghiat @mcopelov @Will_Bunch Image
This piece provides important context and “stakes” of the 2024 election. Thank you @bethreinhard

It’s unfortunate WaPo editors have softened the edges of the facts presented by their choice of euphemisms.

FYI “Post-constitutional” = dictatorship

@TimothyDSnyder Image
@bethreinhard @TimothyDSnyder We need regular Project 2025 coverage and discussion of dictatorship and fascist movements, not soft-pedaling “violating norms of exec overreach”.

IDEA: How about a weekly Sunday deep dive A1 on Project 2025?

🧵BREAKING: Newsrooms Rush to Communicate That Trump's Felony Conviction Doesn't Matter

While many front pages prominently carried news of Trump’s guilt, our most influential newsrooms are already communicating to the public that they should not consider this a very big deal. 1/ Image
Newsrooms can make a big deal out of, and paint as a beyond the pale scandal, anything they want. That they haven't made those choices for Trump suggests a willful desire not to. News execs are choosing to normalize Trump and downplay his disqualifying behavior. Terrifying. 2/ Image
Would any other politician receive such framing? Consider, none of the articles had to be written at all. Each of those outlets could have chosen to use the occasion of Trump’s historic conviction to instead call for him to drop out of the race. Alas, a bizarre whitewash. 3/ Image

🧵Epic 4th Estate Failure: News orgs @WSJ & media stars like @maggienyt @jdawsey1 w/#FreeEvan bios have been mute on Trump’s insane extortion/brag 5/23/24.

Trump is telling Putin ok to keep Evan.

Why is this not #FrontPage ?

@froomkin @NewsJennifer @jaketapper @MarkJacob16 Image
Journalists should see themselves in Evan in a second Trump term (or more).

That @SallyBuzbee @nycscribe cannot muster the courage to stand up for Evan in any meaningful way - tells you legacy news orgs are not worried about “democracy” and are enabling American fascism.

2/ Image
@SallyBuzbee @nycscribe Please read this by @brianstelter in @newrepublic the future of journalism and media under Trump rule is ominous.

Journalists need to sound the alarm. This is not normal.

A🧵The @nytimes is failing to stand up for democracy.

Today @charlie_savage normalizes threats and whitewashes Trump’s plans to govern as a dictator and end American democracy.

Euphemistic BS abounds.

@MarkJacob16 @ruthbenghiat @NewsJennifer Image
It’s hard to stomach how little @NYTimesGuild @AGSNYT care about our democracy.

NYT keyboards cannot type “fascist” or “dictator”.

NYT hides reality and deceives its readership.

“Eliminate checks and balances” = dictatorship

2/
@tzimmer_history @JeffSharlet Image
@NYTimesGuild @AGSNYT @tzimmer_history @JeffSharlet This is called “dictatorship”. SEE Russia @charlie_savage

Will NYT wake up to the very real chance of a Trump dictatorship? Or will it Wordle itself to a bigger audience w/some news-lite?

Can NYT hire some historians to consult? @nycscribe
