The death of a Dalit student in an institution like IIT Bombay is very dangerous, the family says that he was mentally tortured and publicly humiliated on caste grounds by other upper caste students, we demand that a CBI inquiry should be conducted immediately... #DarshanSolanki
"As soon as students came to know that Darshan belongs to SC ST then their behavior changed, they misbehaved with him” - Family
"When he came last month, he told me, and mom-dad, that there's caste discrimination happening there. His friends came to know that he belongs to a scheduled caste, so their behaviour towards him changed. They stopped talking to him, they stopped hanging out with him," - Sister
"One month ago when he came here, he was saying that many students don't like that I am studying for free. People are jealous, they ask 'why are you studying for free while we are spending a lot of money'. 'Many students are jealous of me,' he told me" - Aunty Divyaben
IIT Bombay campus insiders said the SC/ST Cell had last year conducted a survey where 100 students testified that they were facing caste discrimination, as a result of which, many were having mental health issues. ....

#JusticeForDarshanSolanki
Darshan Solanki was a very talented student, he cracked the IIT exam twice, in the first time he took computer science but left the college due to not getting the desired branch, next time he passed the exam again and took admission in chemical engineering.

#DarshanSolanki
Darshan Solanki cracked the IIT exam twice without coaching institutions.

#JusticeForDarshanSolanki
"The investigation committee formed by the administration of @iitbombay is neither transparent nor independent. There is no external member in the committee which is supposed to identify if the institute was at fault. No info about the committee is sent to students."- @AppscIITb

#Brahmanical patriarchy is so painful & violent. During the Travancore Kingdom, Dalit/OBC women were not allowed to cover their breasts unless they paid a tax. The fee was determined by the size of their breasts. This was made to humiliate them and remind them of their low status
The tax had been imposed by the Brahmin king of the erstwhile state of Travancore; one of the 550 princely states that existed in British ruled India in the year 1803.

Royal officials would travel door to door, collecting this heinous breast tax from lower caste women.....
There are thousands of women forced to follow such customs in the society but only a few of them have enough courage to stand up against such practices.

Nangeli, one such woman, who belonged to Cherthala in the central region of Kerala protested against the breast tax...

#Thread Hello Madam, You probably have not read Manusmriti, today we tell you how Manusmriti is against the freedom of women.

Ambedkar gave the right to divorce, right to inheritance, legal recognition of inter-caste marriages & legal status to women as equal citizens......
Since a woman is not capable of living independently, she is to be kept under the custody of her father as a child, under her husband as a woman (wife) and under her son as a widow....
It is the duty of all husbands to exert total control over their wives. Even physically weak husbands must strive to control their wives....

Our fight is totally different from landlord farmers. 92% of Scheduled Caste holding is marginal (0-2 hectares) of the 86.21% overall. The Agricultural Census of 2015-16 reported that Dalits operate only about 9% of the total area which is an average land holding of 0.78 hectares
71% Dalits are landless labourers who work on a land they do not own. In the rural areas 58.4% Dalit households do not own land at all. As we look at Dalit dominated states viz. Haryana, Punjab and Bihar where 85% Dalits in these states are living at the mercy of their landlords.
More than 60% of landless Dalits in Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Kerala, WB, and Odisha yearn for a good future. And in most number of districts in Bihar, Haryana, Punjab, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, TN, & Kerala, 90% of Dalit farmers are agricultural labourers.
