Eris, #goddess of mischief & play, found a new game one fateful day.

At a party to which she was not invited, she threw a golden apple, & fire ignited.

A competition between the fairest three, for the title of beauty beyond degree.

Aphrodite, Hera, & Athena did vie, each claiming the prize should be hers by & by.

Their rivalry grew fierce & wild, each determined to win & be the most beautiful in style, worthy of Eris' golden brand.

But possession proved a fickle thing, & soon the rivalry turned into piercing sting.

Zeus could not decide who should win, so mortal Paris was called in.

The three goddesses each gave a bribe, but it was Aphrodite's that he did imbibe.

She promised him love from the fairest of all, so he chose her, & the others did appall.

Thus began a great war to unfold, as the Greeks & Trojans battled bold.

Eris watched with glee, she was right, they were assholes, you see.

Her golden apple a catalyst that started a war all caused by her playful game & mischievous lore.

So let us remember the lesson Eris taught, that possession is not all that it's sought, & for a playful gesture, a mischievous jest, can turn into a conflict & a lifelong quest.

Let's take pleasure in the joy that play can bring, & avoid the strife that possession can sting.
