I don’t know who these imaginary DeSantis voters are supposed to be. What do people think is going to happen when Trump & DeSantis go head-to-head, competing for a base of longtime Trump supporters?
Again, “Quietly Hoping Trump Will Go Away” does not strike me as a viable strategy here

I am profoundly skeptical of the theory that Haley is only doing this to be considered as Trump’s VP. If so, why run against him at all? Does she think Trump won’t see this as an act of disloyalty? How milquetoast a campaign would it have to be to avoid offending Der Führer?

Many in the media would like to see a DeSantis Presidential candidacy because they want to see someone in the GOP challenge Trump.

But DeSantis’s primary appeal to Republican voters is that he would be “Trump, Part II.”

If he goes head-to-head with Trump, he loses those voters.
The only way a Republican could realistically challenge Trump would be as a fully-fledged Anti-MAGA alternative.

There aren’t any candidates like that likely to get in the race. I don’t think there are a whole lot of Republicans who’d even want one.
