The vast, vast majority of media figures over 40 with whom I have worked and know completely changed how they talk, what they talk about and what they say about it in the last 5 years.
If you think about it, few traits make a journalist more worthless than fear of dissenting.
It's natural elite preservation. I see it in Brazil, too.
From 2014-18, anti-PT sentiment was very high in elite circles, so most media figures supported Dilma's impeachment and Lula's imprisonment.
After 2018, PT became popular again, so tons of public figures just switched.
“'The people I’m closest to in this organization are women,' citing a list of female colleagues including the anchors Dana Bash and Erin Burnett" -- @donlemon, rebutting allegations from inside CNN that he's a misogynist:
Read this @ryangrim story on how yet another white progressive got caught lying about her race, rising to the top of this activist group claiming to be a "queer woman of color." Instead:
“I’m as white as the driven snow and so is she,” said her mom.
When confronted with these facts, the group she leads defended her: “AFSC does not require any employee to ‘prove’ their heritage as a condition of their employment."
It's only a matter of time in leftist circles before self-identity applies not just to gender but also race.
If you advocate radical changes to society -- an often noble and vital act -- then of course people will discuss the changes you urge; some will question them; others will oppose them.
The job of an activist is to engage doubters and convince them, not demand they be ignored.
The reason the gay and lesbian movement won -- succeeded in convincing large majorities to support this cause -- is because we persuaded enough people to change their mind, not because we whine-bullied media outlets to pretend there was no opposition and to bar debates over it.
Demanding media outlets pretend there's no opposition to your cause is not only corrupt but self-defeating. Those doing this don't care about winning or anything but themselves.
They're only interested in self-affirmation, strutting their power, and cowardly hiding from work.
Even when they're being as overtly racist as it's possible to be -- like mocking Nikki Haley for her name and white husband -- they can't recognize their own racism because they're believe it's inherently impossible for liberals to be racist.
That Nikki Haley "changed her name," as The Atlantic's @jemelehill claimed today, is an outright lie that has been repeatedly debunked even by "fact-checkers" with liberal corporate outlets.
How can anyone see what's going on here and think it's OK?
There's an entire well-financed cottage industry that calls every non-Democrat a Nazi and Hitler, and then they see an explicit celebration of Nazism and Nazi collaborators by Ukraine fanatics and think it's inspiring.
Last July, the Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany, @MelnykAndrij, gave a rather controversial interview (given, you know, Germany) defending Ukraine's national hero, SS collaborator Stephan Bandera. He was then promoted by Zelensky to Dep. Foreign Minister:
Last year, NY State enacted a "Hateful Conduct Law" regulating how social media outlets must handle complaints about hate speech. After Rumble and others sued, an Obama-appointed judge enjoined the law on the ground it violates the 1st Am.
The first paragraph in his ruling:👇
We'll cover this important victory for the 1st Am. and free speech on @SystemUpdate_ tonight.
As Judge Carter said, it's extremely dangerous to allow the state the power to dictate to social media platforms how to handle what it sees as "hate speech." And it's unconstitutional:
