The Director of Public Prosecutions Mr. Noordin M. Haji, and the King’s Attorney General, and President of Public Prosecutions of the Kingdom of Morocco, Mr. Moulay El Hassan Daki today entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)

To enhance understanding and comprehensive cooperation between the Republic of Kenya and the Kingdom of Morocco. The MoU is founded on the principles of respect, equality, and mutual benefit in compliance with the parties’ respective legal systems and international treaties.

The MoU will strengthen networking and cooperation in combatting trans- national organized crimes such as cyber crimes, corruption, money laundering, trafficking in drugs and persons, terrorism, and violent extremism.

They will cooperate on a number of areas levels to maintain and strengthen mutual understanding, the strengthening cooperation in prosecutors’ training, the organization of conferences, and thematic seminars related to the professional skills of the parties.

DPP, Noordin Haji, wants 6 foreigners who were convicted last Friday for trafficking in Ksh 1.3 billion of heroin sentenced to life imprisonment and pay a fine equivalent of 3 times the market value of the drug. #HakiNaUsawa #StopTOC Image
DPP through SADPP, Alexander Muteti, urged the Mombasa Chief Magistrate, Hon. Martha Mutuku, to impose such a sentence as a deterrence to both citizens and foreigners from engaging in such a trade.
The convicts include: Mohamed Saleh, Yakoob Ibrahim, Saleem Muhammad, Bhatti Abdulghafour, Baksh Moula and Pak Abdolghaffer. They trafficked 377.2 kgs of heroin worth Ksh 1.3 billion and 33,200 liters of heroin, worth Sh189 million.

They were given an overview of how the Judiciary works and the role it plays within the criminal justice system; how the other institutions in Kenya work both as independent and interdependent of each other as espoused in the 2010 constitution.

Mr. Moulay El Hassan Daki, Morocco's AG and President of Public Prosecutions gave an overview of their system, which differs from Kenya's. he noted that despite differences, there are similarities, lessons, and best practices that both jurisdictions can learn from.
