1/ Cadets at the Moscow Police College have reported an attempt to forcibly mobilise them en masse under false pretences. They say they were locked in a hall while attempts were made to get them to sign up to join the army. They had to call the police to be released. ⬇️
2/ According to the Russian 'Mobilisation News' Telegram channel, "the cadets were assembled under the pretext of rehearsing a graduation ceremony. But representatives of the military enlistment office came to the meeting.
3/ "The students said that they were detained for an hour and a half in the college on Fabritiusa Street by their teachers - department head Vyacheslav Rozhko and teachers Sergey Vasilyev and Alexei Novikov, as well as 2 representatives of the Tushino military enlistment office."
4/ The students were handed mobilisation orders by the military registration and enlistment office staff and were pressured to sign them. However, they refused, leading an impasse in which they were locked into the hall while their instructors refused to let them go.
5/ Mobilisation News reports that student Maxim G., 19, "called the police asking for help. The boy said that he was a cadet in a police college and that he and his classmates had been locked in the auditorium to force him to go to the front."
6/ The police students were released after the police arrived at the police college to free them from the police instructors.

The incident likely reflects another example of Russia's ongoing 'quiet mobilisation', targeting state employees. /end

1/ Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of the Wagner Group, has given an interview to Russian milblogger Vladlen Tatarsky in which he explains why he thinks Wagner is experiencing severe 'shell hunger' in eastern Ukraine. It includes a lot of interesting details. A rough translation: ⬇️ Image
2/ PRIGOZHIN: Ammunition has not been given to us and is not being given to us. As of 10:20:02 February, no steps have been taken to issue ammunition. What is the problem? I'll explain.
3/ I am posting a picture below. This is one of the gathering places of the dead. These are the guys who died yesterday. Due to shelling and starvation so called. There should have been five times less. Five times. So. Mothers, wives and children will get their bodies. Image

1/ Russia's ammunition shortage in eastern Ukraine is reportedly so severe that its troops there have reportedly been issued with completely unusable munitions, including shells which are so rusty they have simply disintegrated. ⬇️ ImageImageImageImage
2/ After complaints from Yevgeny Prigozhin about Wagner fighters being denied ammunition, Alexander Khodakovsky of the pro-Russian Vostok Battalion has written that the situation is the same for everyone – indicating an extreme case of 'shell famine'.
3/ The VChK-OGPU Telegram channel has posted photos of some of the ammunition that it says Russian regular forces have been issued. This suggests that the shortage isn't just confined to 'independent' mercenary or militia groups but also affects the army itself.

1/ Vladimir Putin's patriotic concert and rally at Moscow's Luzhniki stadium today was an impressive event on camera. But off camera, it's reported to have been poorly attended. The audience brought many Soviet patriotic symbols, rather than Putinist ones. ⬇️ ImageImageImageImage
2/ A correspondent for the independent Russian news outlet 'We can explain' attended the rally and summarises: "Entire sectors are empty at Putin's concert in Luzhniki. People could not be lured in with money or exemptions from work and study. Z-symbols replaced by Soviet flags."
3/ The stadium was not even half full by 45 minutes before the start of the event. The organisers planned to close the stadium doors to block anyone leaving, to avoid a repeat of the incident last year at a rally to mark Crimea's annexation when people left before Putin's speech.

1/ While international attention has been on Vladimir Putin's giant 'Glory to the Defenders of the Fatherland' rally and concert in Moscow, smaller events have been held across Russia, including patriotic speeches and children demonstrating their knowledge of weapons. ⬇️
2/ The independent Russian news outlet 'Ostorozhno, novosti' (ON) reports that rallies across Russia have been publicised by local authorities and instititions. They have taken a variety of formats: motor races, commemorations at memorials or on the streets, concerts and rallies.
3/ As ON puts it, "Z-variety songs are sung on the streets of cities, the authorities speak to the population, memorial plaques are opened to the participants of the special military operation.

1/ The perpetrators of one of the Wagner Group's most infamous crimes – the 2017 torture and killing with a sledgehammer of a Syrian man and his subsequent dismemberment on camera – have been identified from records apparently taken from Wagner by hackers. ⬇️ Image
2/ In June 2017, a Syrian man named as 'Mohammad' was captured by Wagner members near a facility they controlled. He had deserted from the Syrian Army or a pro-Assad militia group after apparently being forcibly conscripted.
3/ After torturing him for a long time with a sledgehammer and other tools, the Wagner men cut off his hands, hung his body up by the legs and burned it, and placed his severed head on public display.

1/ Preparations are underway in Russia for Vladimir Putin's annual address to the nation today. State employees and students have been ordered to attend a concert and rally, and ominous posters have appeared in Moscow proclaiming that "Russia's border does not end anywhere". ⬇️
2/ While the contents of Putin's speech are not yet known, it's being heavily publicised in Moscow with posters inviting people to "Watch and Listen" and – perhaps in a preview of the speech's content – declaring "Russia's border does not end anywhere".
3/ A 'Glory to the Defenders of the Fatherland' rally and concert is to be held at Moscow's Luzhniki stadium on 22 February, attended by Putin. The independent Russian news outlet ASTRA reports that state employees have been instructed to attend, as have students.
