This thing happens in #deconstruction where we start by rage reading and learning all the things and rage tweeting all the things too but then it gets deeper and deeper and claws its way into every aspect of your being and becomes personal. 1/
I used to talk to a lot more people on all sides about deconstruction. But the more I spent time in community with the folx that have been hurt by evangelicalism, the less I can have conversations from all the sides and angles when people fail to recognize power and privilege. 2/
It’s not that I am refusing to listen. Its that it’s painful to have people debating my existence or the existence and lived experience of people I’m close with. I’m not just reading stories in books, many of these authors are my friends too. 3/
People are making a choice when they debate harm, trauma, and injustice. They’re making a choice to ignore folx screaming to be heard and instead they’re choosing to sit comfortably in places where they find the most agreement and the least disruption. 4/
So, I might not say as much as often these days. But a lot of it is because it’s either way too personal or it’s not just up for debate. /5 💥
