🧵 let’s channel our frustrations and turn this into #40daysforrights If we do a few today we will catch up, then I will add a new idea every day.
Day one: if you don’t already, follow @backoffscotland here and on Instagram and Facebook. Even if you already follow, you could Image
like and share some posts to help boost their message. You don’t need to live in Scotland to boost their message and support them.
Day Two of #40daysforrights follow @BPAS1968 who share information, campaigns and even have some interesting podcasts to listen to.
Day 3 of #40daysforrights It’s well worth reading the academic research of @DrPamLowe on anti abortion activism. Her research was cited during the Northern Ireland Supreme Court hearing on #bufferzones Here is one to get started with cdn1.sph.harvard.edu/wp-content/upl…
Day 4 #40daysforrights the @hopenothate report on the far right is an excellent read. The far right are an inherent threat to abortion rights and it is very useful to understand how they operate. Lots of good Hope Not Hate podcasts too! hopenothate.org.uk/wp-content/upl…
Day 5 #40DaysForRights Polish abortion rights activist, Justyna Wydrzyńska still needs urgent support. She is facing jail. Here is what has happened to her and ways you can help asn.org.uk/iamjustyna/
Day 6 #40DaysForRights The U.K. is well out of step with @WHO guidance on #abortion care. They recommend full DECRIMINALISATION (page 27) Tweet/write to your MPs/MSPs and tell them we should follow WHO guidelines apps.who.int/iris/bitstream…
Day 7 a little earlier because tonight’s documentary is very important!
Day 8 #40DaysForRights tweet/write to your MSPs/police and raise concern about these threats to the Sandyford clinic in #Glasgow One says he’s happy to go to jail. In second clip the leader says ‘bring your brick’
Unfortunately it’s not hard to think of an action every day for 40 days. The religious right in Scotland are emboldened and they are coming for women and LGBT people.
Day 9 #40DaysForRights a great account to follow is @cabaretagainst they drowned out anti abortion protesters chanting in #glasgow yesterday and will be defending the Sandyford Clinic against a far right group next weekend. Image
Day 10 #40DaysForRights Follow @Abortion_Rights & in the spirit of Lent, why not forgo a coffee or wine this weekend and donate the 💰to them? abortionrights.org.uk/donate/
Day 11 #40DaysForRights It’s Saturday, why not have a movie night later and watch ‘The Janes’? The true story of a women’s network who provided abortion care pre Roe? Supporting films like this is activism ✊🏻 nowtv.com/watch/the-jane…
Day 12 of #40DaysForRights Read this article about how the well funded religious right influence education, abortion rights, assisted dying and how they shut down all criticism. Great info about Scotland’s Humanist Society too! heraldscotland.com/politics/23363…
Day 13 #40DaysForRights Take a banner for your social media profiles to remind people that clinic harassment is ongoing and that we need #bufferzones @backoffscotland ImageImageImageImage
Day 14 #40DaysForRights join us on Facebook so we can share news, petitions, protest information and generally support each other. A group where we support the bodily autonomy of all people. 🏳️‍⚧️ Image
Day 15 #40DaysForRights Learn about what a blanket abortion ban, Decree 770, did to Romania. All those orphanages and suffering were no coincidence! And 🇺🇸 Christian Right organisations are meddling with Romania again. #IWD23 feels meaningless this year
grid.news/story/global/2…
Day 16 #40DaysForRights you can use this search engine to raise money for @BPAS1968 for free. After their amazing U.K. buffer zone achievement, help them maintain the momentum on abortion rights. savoo.co.uk/charities/brit…
Day 17 #40DaysForRights Complete the Scottish Government public consultation to reform criminal law to address #misogyny consult.gov.scot/criminal-justi…
Day 18 #40DaysForRights make a feminist/pro choice sign. Someone will be collecting them for something good. Details to come 😉
Day 19 #40DaysForRights after hearing many stigmatising comments, this book on longitudinal studies on abortion access is well worth a read. Abortion regret is rare. Time to destigmatise healthcare. Image
Day 20 #40DaysForRights follow @AbortionBooks_ and help end the stigma through books. One of my favourite’s is ‘Unpregnant’. It’s so good that it’s banned in Texas.
Day 21 #40DaysForRights follow @JessicaValenti (here and @auntiekilljoy on TikTok) She covers the horror show that is post Roe America. These extremists and their money is active HERE and we need to know what they want to do to us
Day 22 of 12 hour a day harassment outside QEUH. Did you know that the organisers in Texas make huge profits from this? Spread the word about the Harassment Industry #40DaysForRights pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/opinion/520… ImageImage
Day 23 of clinic harassment. #40DaysForRights If you or anyone you know was ever forced to watch the foul anti abortion propaganda film ‘The Silent Scream’ in school, please read this which debunks pretty much all of it. If you know of anyone being… doctorsforchoice.mt/amp/about-that…
made to watch this more recently, please give me a shout!
Day 24 #40DaysForRights get a copy of this, proceeds go to Abortion rights charities amazon.co.uk/dp/B0BYRDXBPH
Day 25 #40DaysForRights It’s Saturday night. Why not watch (or introduce people to) Dirty Dancing - a film about how you can only ban *safe abortion.
Day 26 #40DaysForRights Learn about dangerous, so called abortion reversal pills. These are pushed by anti groups and even some unscrupulous so called ‘doctors’ glasgowguardian.co.uk/2023/03/11/the…
Day 27 #40DaysForRights The clinic harassers pull down any supportive pro choice signs. Make your views known with chalk. They don’t deserve to feel comfortable while they harass vulnerable people Image
Day 28 of clinic harassment. Let’s turn it into #40DaysForRights Listen to this recent Guardian podcast about the state of abortion services in the U.K. and why some women and patients have had to travel huge distances to get care open.spotify.com/episode/5G6KTq…

Male anti-abortion specimens shouting at women in London yesterday. It’s like something from a @MargaretAtwood novel. Chilling.

This lot think they have the right to interfere with Scottish democracy and reinstate the right to harass women outside clinics. The government knew theocrats would try this. Link below about some of their interesting sources of funding
Not just American evangelicals though, diocese in Scotland probably collect more donations for them vice.com/en/article/93b…
And gaming the courts is from the anti abortion playbook. That’s how they overturned Roe in American and just (unsuccessfully) tried to ban Mifepristone. What will happen next (as with England outside local buffer zones) an activist will hang around outside the clinic for as

1 🧵I translated a Romanian news article into English re the young woman who died after being denied an abortion 💔
2 "I can't breathe" | The death of Alexandra and the revolt against the system that killed her. Her brother: doctors should save lives, not kill them.
3 The death of a pregnant young woman whom doctors refused to care for outside of working hours has sparked street protests in Botoșani. People are outraged and demanding justice for Alexandra (25 years old), a mother of three children, the oldest being five years old

🧵This woman is (or was) being represented by a Paul Conrathe who has a history of supporting blasphemy laws, and in 2001 took on the case of a man who wanted to legally force his ex to continue her unwanted pregnancy bbc.co.uk/news/uk-englan…
He appears to have also taken on anti trans rights laws and is involved with conservative Christian organisations. I fully agree with Heidi that people with Down’s Syndrome matter. A person with Down’s Syndrome may need or want an abortion too. Bodily autonomy and disability
rights are not mutually exclusive. People with disabilities can be more vulnerable to abuse and can have pregnancy related health complaints too. Down’s Syndrome can’t be detected until later in gestation. So called ‘late term’ abortions are less than 2% of abortions

🧵 wrote to the Herald about Mason’s disgusting attempt to weaponise miscarriage in his attempt to remove choice from all women and people who can get pregnant (including little kids who start their period early). They have also platformed another man who hates women Image
but they at least didn’t give him the headline on the page, so there’s that I suppose Image
