I have said throughout that many people who joined the protest circuit are misfits seeking community.
Derick’s song choice says it all:
I wanna be the minority
I don't need your authority
Down with the moral majority
'Cause I wanna be the minority
🎶
I wrote graduate-level papers using a feminist constructivist paradigm about how patterns of violence in real life can be directly related to constructions of identity.
I spent two years boots on the ground observing the mutation of “fringe” politics.
I am an expert.
Having heard dozens of Derick’s speeches and spoken to him on & off camera, my opinion is well-informed:
He is not a Nazi.
Some will call me “NAZI SYMPATHIZER” in response to this thread. They are not only wrong, but also engaging in Holocaust distortion.
This is similar to Holocaust distortion by the “freedom” movement in liberally comparing the federal government to Nazis.
Words have meaning.
Smear-by-association based on selfies with politicians is not strong evidence of Nazism.
Speculation about secret employment or psyops based on such photos is conspiracy thinking.
Everyone, take a deep breath.
I understand the urge to apply labels, but mental shortcuts are not good enough when throwing around loaded words like “Nazi.”
I say this from personal experience, having been subjected to the term both online and in real life.
Words matter.
Personally, I would not yell at a vigil.
Nor would I block a hospital.
Nor would I throw eggs.
Nor would I go to a politician’s home.
But it doesn’t matter what I would do or not do as protest. These are all controversial yet defensible forms of political expression.
I am nothing if not honest in sharing my observations and analysis.
There are short-term benefits for extreme positions & snap judgments, but less integrity.
We must accept that not everyone with whom we disagree is a Nazi.
Engage with facts.
Avoid hyperbole.
Elevate the discourse.
My $0.02.

I gave attention to community voices targeted and held hostage by demonstrators with ulterior motives, including via interviews with the drag storytime performer, library CEO, and mayor.
Thanks for the feedback, but other people do not get to decide what I cover.
Given the frenzy of hateful online discourse about me (#CarymaNgo), there is no question that the Canadian Anti-Hate Network effectively put a target on my back.
I have shied away from calling myself a journalist in the past, in part due to insecurities arising from taking a gonzo approach.
The fact is my footage and commentary routinely get picked up by major national & international broadcasters.
16-year-old Save Canada protester Josh Alexander was unaware of the “cock on a sock” photoshop controversy involving antifaux leader TonyYvce.
He confirmed off-camera it was an image of his brother, 18-year-old Nic.
So, not child pornography but still sexual harassment.
TonyYvce posted the same cock on a sock image on photos of me, my cameraman, and Jeremy Mackenzie.
IMHO degrading people is wrong regardless of the target.
Twitter seems to agree, considering all tweets have been removed and TonyYvce’s account was locked for several hours.
I got criticized for speaking out about this issue, and faced retaliation as described above and seen below.
I still believe it’s possible— indeed, preferable— to forcefully denounce hateful ideologies and ridicule nonsensical views without dehumanizing or being mean-spirited.
TonyYvce is often cited by Rachel Gilmore, and despite claiming otherwise seems closely connected to the Canadian Anti-Hate Network.
The anonymous account regularly carries out targeted harassment and radicalizes followers with implied calls to violence, including against me.
It is possible to vehemently oppose a person or ideology without resorting to abuse— particularly where minors are involved.
This is not just a matter of basic decency; from a purely strategic standpoint, the optics of attacking young people suck and will galvanize adversaries.
This incident is the real life manifestation of specific acts of violence that Gisela McKay has previously mused about inflicting.
I am the housing lawyer referred to in the attached screenshot.
Very alarming.
To reiterate, I see no equivalency between fascism and antifascism.
My reference to bad actors on “both sides” is specific to individuals who cloak themselves in progressive language while setting back the causes they purport to champion.
