🧵The @JustinTrudeau government doesn't seem to grasp the scale of the abuse crisis in 🇨🇦 sport, so here is another thread, this time about abuse in and around #Ottawa over the last 20 years. This is by no means an exhaustive list. 1/17

That's a sample of what was reported in and around Ottawa. One city. There's more reports, and even more unreported. This thread alone covers #hockey, #soccer, #basketball, #waterpolo, #gymnastics, and #track. It's not one "bad" sport. Time for @JustinTrudeau to act. 17/17
🧵The GTHL has always been problematic. The league suspends some of the bad actors. But the issues are persistent. As @rwesthead and @Dreamer_Aliu78 showed today, the problems are deeply entrenched. Here's a handful of incidents 1/13
In the 1990s, James Willard was allowed to coach multiple teams despite a conviction for sexually assaulting children. In 2003 he pled guilty to possessing, distributing and accessing child porn. 2/13
In 2001, referee Graeme Bonar quit working games in the GTHL all together. "You tell them to keep their stick down and they tell you to f--- off. You approach a coach and he tells you f--- off." 3/13
